Abs Module Replacement

Post by samples08 »

Ok this is what i have done,

1.Replaced the Abs Module,
2.Bleed the Brakes according to,
Myfirstbonnie Wrote:
With changing the ABS module, it will take several bleeds. You always want to work the farthest away from the master cylinder to the closest.

Right rear
Left rear
Right front
Left front

Go down a gravel road and lock them up to get the ABS to activate. Go home and bleed again as above. Repeat until clean fluid comes out of all 4 wheels and no air is present.

Doing this will bleed all the air out of the channels through the new module.
And After i have done all of these things, the pedal still seems soft compared to what i remeber could the relay have gone bad i dont get it someone, Anyone Please Help me figure this out?? :banghead: :bhang:

I am not a hundred percent sure. But I know on my S-10 you have to have a scanner to properly bleed the brake module. I bleed them the normal way and the ABS locked up every time you hit the brakes. Quite scary. I am cheap so I just took the fuse out for the ABS put black tape over the light and drove it for a month. Put the fuse back in and it was fine. Might work for the Bonneville.

Did you have a firm pedal before changing the module? Not to sound demeaning, but you do know to press and HOLD the pedal while bleeding. I have run into a lot of people having problems bleeding brakes because they did not know how to do it properly.

How many times did you bleed them? It should have taken several times to get the air out. You should bleed them until you get clean fluid and no air out before moving on to the next wheel. Make sure the res does not get too low while bleeding.

You should be able to bleed them enough to get a firm pedal before doing the ABS activation. All this does is open the ports in the module and bleeds the air out of it. When they hook up a Tech II (scanner) to it, all they do is activate each wheel individually to bleed it.

Also, please keep the posts together so everyone can see what has been done/suggested.

Glad you got it. If your brakes are worn, you may want to put them on the to do list.
