I need help installing a new radio!!! 2000 Bonneville
Alright so im putting in a new radio in my car, I have a 2000 Bonnevillle SE with the stock cd player radio in it. i got everything off and the radio out.and when you pull the radio out it just has a mounted plug for the radio and antenna in the back of the radio and in the dash. no loose wiring harness or anything to splice to my new radio, what am i suppose to do now? any thoughts? im not trying to break anything. it'll be greatly appreciated.

You need an adapter harness. Your car has a ribbon cable to the plug, which you cannot splice into. Beyond that, I don't know...

I would not trust any of those places to have a quality harness adapter, let alone one at all for these cars.
I know PAC audio and Metra make them for these cars. I am very limited in knowledge on stereos in general, so I can't give you much help beyond this...

Best Buy should carry it, and I would and have trusted them for car audio and such.

There are two adapters for our cars the PAC c2r-gm32r and the Metra gmos9 Search online to find out prices and who carries them
I used the PAC in my car but after comparing experiences with owners who tried the metra I recommend it over mine

I am in the process of the exact same scenario and discovered after going to all of the car audio stores in my area (including Best Buy and WM) that it is not a common in stock part. I ended up ordering one off of ebay for $5

You will need a wiring adaptor kit with the tone box. The box is for things like door chimes, fuel etc.
They run thru the stock radio and without it they don't work.
This is what you need http://www.metraonline.com/part/GMRC-04
Also an antenna adaptor from the stock antenna to one that fits your new headunit.
When you try and install the new headunit it may not fit all the way back inside the dash opening because the stock radio is "Dok/Lok" style..meaning it plugs directly into the dash and not a loose wiring harness. Once you add the wiring harness it may take up the room you need to fit the new one into the dash. If your careful you can get it in the dash.
The cars 00+ aren't great for putting aftermarket headunits in so it take alittle work but they can be fitted.
Any good stereo shop should be able to get you the right wiring harness and antenna adaptor. Just make sure it is the right one. You will not need to cut wires.
Just take your time and it will work.

Most aftermarket stereos are too deep, you have to use a dremel tool and trim the plastic behind the stereo out. The ribbon cable just pops out and can be maneuvered around to trim, just be careful not to cut it

That's what I had to do with mine. Plus the inside the front of the opening.swampthing wrote:Most aftermarket stereos are too deep, you have to use a dremel tool and trim the plastic behind the stereo out. No big deal. Worked out fine.

Look back in the hole. It basically clips in and then over the opening it's in. Same with the antenna. Both will need to be moved. Once you plug the adaptors in you will need to push then back into the openings left by them when their out of their mounting holes.

Re: I need help installing a new radio!!! 2000 Bonneville
i got the wires all hooked up and when you start the car the new radio wont power on. but if you tap the wires into a battery it starts up. i was reading on another forum that you ran wires to the back seat of the car, where and what would you hook up back there for the radio to work.?
Re: I need help installing a new radio!!! 2000 Bonneville
check your fuses. also check the power from the harness with multi meter or a test light. the harness should be recieving a 12V switched power (yellow IIRC) and a 12V constant (Red IIRC) from the ribbon cable. Also check your grounds if the deck is not grounded it wont power on. if your red and yellow wires are not powering you may have blown a fuse (under rear seat). i nicked the hazzard wire with my dremmel and poped a fuse when hacking the back of the dash out. fixed wire and replaced fuse, all good. dont run extra wires to the battery.

Re: I need help installing a new radio!!! 2000 Bonneville
I ran a power wire to the fusebox under the back seat. Just kept looking till I found one that only worked with the key in the on position.
Like I said the 00+ can be a pain. My 97 was easy. Wire up the harness and it was working.

Re: I need help installing a new radio!!! 2000 Bonneville
I got it. we plugged the switch wire to the fuse in the back called SRI which is for the air bags, but we bought an adapter to plug into another circuit into the same fuse slot. and hooked the 12v constant to the positive terminal on the fuse box.
