Strange squeel/squeek after Intake Manifold Gsket replace.

Post by dandyd »

I replaced the gaskets on the upper and lower intake manifold a few days ago. Upon completion the engine is making a strange squeel/squeek noise. I've removed the Serp. Belt and run the engine and the noise is still there so it's nothing coming from the pulleys. What else should I consider. The noise was not there prior to the gasket replacement?

Can you help us help you by saying the year, make, and model you are working on? Is this posted in the proper forum?

If this is NA and you replaced the UIM, make sure both o-rings are on the PCV valve.

Sorry 'bout that...it's a 2000 Buick LeSabre. Found the problem...exactly....the new PCV valve I put on it last Friday did not come with the O-Ring and in my haste to finish (after a long day); I failed to put one on it. Went back to check it this afternoon, found the problem....and from my drawer supply of O-rings put one on it....put it back in and the thing is running like a purring kitten. Thanks for the help. Amazing what happens to an engine for the lack of a .25 part!

Hey, while I got ya let me run another problem by ya for your thoughts. The transmission in this car had a strange roar, and sounded like bearings on the output shaft were shot... I pulled the pan and numerous chunkis of metal where in the pan. I pulled the tranny and took it to a shop for a rebuild (I can work on engines, just not trannys).....It was rebuilt and I put it back in....sound gone now, but it's shift is quite harsh (it was not like that when it was broken as it shifted fine). I took the car back to the tranny shop and he kept it for a couple weeks...and he even pulled the tranny again....went thru it and did the job over...even replaced a few of the parts again just for good measure.....still no luck....still has a harsh shift (at times). I hear this is a common issue with the 4T65E tranny.....but no decent remedies are ever provided. Do you have any experience or ideas I may check?

Ask them if they have changed the PCS or just measured it and re-installed it? If they have not replaced it, tell them too.

They might not have pulled the battery or manually reset the pcm. It could still be calling for high line pressure, that is how it compensated for the aging transmission.

I had the battery completely out of the vehicle during the process of re-installing the transmission myself. Then when done, I ran the the codes with my own scanner as part of the process, and have done that and cleared codes several times to little effect. At this point it will probably just become one of the nuances of this vehicle, as most older vehicles have something.

I was so happy to finally have all the repairs done on this LeSabre and it was running beautifully. I set out this evening to run an errand and had no power steering (working just fine yesterday, and no noise from pump etc...) Therefore, I'm assuming the pump has gone DOA. I check fluid, and it was within specs....with engine running I saw no movement of the fluid at all....so I guess the pump is toast..............move work!
