1) Good-bye Conti's. You made it through 31k, and 4 Autocross events. Your shoulders paid for it by chunking after AutoX events.. (not really good bye, they're in my storage room lol)

Yes those are wear bars i'm 1 mil from at most..

2) Time has come for dedicated winter/summer groups. Might just run a very good-in-winter all season tire on my OE rims though, we'll see. Pardon the pix, the colors seem a hair off since I didn't check my settings before shooting tonight. THey're not bronze but more of a black/machined off black look. Hell my car looks orange almost.

4) Konig Runaway 18x8's. They are LIGHT. Got a deal since they were a display set in a store for a bit, and 2 of them have a nick or two on the lip. I'll prob toss on a red pinstripe on them come winter time...
Image

5) Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec. The Direzza came out last year, and were one of the top choices in autocross due to insane grip and great sidewall strength. They were very resistant to overheating, but took a few runs to come to temp. The Star spec signifies the new compound that comes into operating temp much quicker, without leaving you prone to overheating.

Now my car looks like a truck... :sad5: The 225/40/ 18's are the stock size tire on 18" wheels on a GTI... Granted these tires don't have tons of tread depth, US cars had taller springs added to them to meet crash/bumper regs. it's screaming for about a 2" drop. Maybe next year.

2" drop is almost mandatory at this point....but looks amazing anyways. :beerchug: Great choice for wheels...and those tires look mighty sticky.

Oh, I'm disappointed by the post based on the thread's title...

Anyway, those tires look pretty cool. If you weren't running Autocross, how long would they last?

THey're a very new compound (released March IIRC?) but 15-20k isn't out of the question. They'll last longer than Azenis 612 from what I've heard so far. On the street in daily driving, I drive smooth, and don't thrash tires at all. On a "fun run" or some spirited country driving, i'll get into turns pretty hot, but nothing they can't handle.

Used them @ the Test 'n Tune today, went pretty good, they hold on *dang* well, I was able on a lot of sweepers to really lay into the power more. Oh super tight corners and such my car is still held back by the lack of LSD, but that just means I have to be smoother.

Braking they are simply awesome, I'm still getting used to a part of the braking system that's designed for Panic stops, and feels like ABS through the Pedal, even if the tires aren't locked up. When I really got on the brakes at the end of the day, the tires were great! Off the line there's no drama at all, I was still rolling the corners a little more than I would've liked @ 42psi.

I wasn't cooling them off after a few runs like planned. Our two test courses today were only 40 seconds or so each.

I propose a complete 180 to what the general tuning public does; turn this car into an off-road rally beast. I fall in love with the idea and have only seen maybe 2-3 cars that were built like this. I'm a huge rally fan so there is no doubt that is my influence, but think about it. Cruising along some country road in the fall right after the fields have been harvested (not plowed yet) and all you have to do is whip the car across a tractor access road and RIP IT UP!
You could also have fun with mud-pits, gravel roads, dirt field drives, etc.
