Battery
Found out after leaving the lights on for twenty minutes, its time for a new battery.
I see they are averaging around $140 plus
Whats with the cost being so high? The last time I purchased a battery for other cars, it was well under $100.

Re: Battery
I see I can get it in on-line at at Advance for $137 and then they will give you $20 off if you order over $100, plus they will give you a $50 coupon towards a future purchase of $100 or more. That will bring my cost to $I17. I guess I willl go that route and use the $50 coupon to purchase one for my truck. I guess that will be needing one soon

Re: Battery
Copper and other precious metals prices have been up a lot over the past few years. These are the metals used on the plates used inside each cell on a battery.

Re: Battery
Wow! Is there a huge difference in batteries between the Bonneville and the Lesabre? The battery I bought at the beginning of this year for the Lesabre only cost me $89...granted it's a walmart battery, but it has a 5 year replacement warranty.

Re: Battery
The difference is between the <99 and 00+. We have our battery under the backseat, and it has a vent system that leads out of the car.

Re: Battery
Spend a bit more, and buy an Optima Red Top. That way you don't need a new battery each time you leave the lights on.
Optima don't suffer from being drained, and also have the advantage of huge amount of start power. Good when the weather gets colder.

Re: Battery
Optima's aren't perfect either.
I purchased a brand new Optima red top for my Camaro years ago. Put it in, drove the car on a cruise, all was well. A week later, went to go for another cruise and I needed my schumacher jumper to get it started. (And no, nothing was left on!).
From there on, I left it on a trickle whenever not in use.
Back on topic though, OEM batteries, the replacement for our 00+ cars is smaller than the stock battery. I had to replace mine right before I sold it and it was 3/4's the size of the original.

Re: Battery
I've bought several batteries for my project cars. I always go with the 78 series from Oreilly's for $99.99. You have to modify the vent tube a little because the battery is a little shorter, but it works great.

Re: Battery
I have an Optima Red Top in my car and I don't notice any benefits/disadvantages to the stocker. I do need to fab up a vent, because even though Optima is an AGM battery, willwren had issues with his swelling up and spewing out the vents. I'm thinking a piece of square tubing with a couple of holes in it that will lead into the stock vents using some small diameter brake tubing to adapt. Little welding and brazing and I'll be good.

Re: Battery
Then is it just a matter of changing the caps out? 78 has sealed caps and 100 has vented caps?harofreak00 wrote:I've bought several batteries for my project cars. Re: Battery
No, the 78 series is still top vented... its just shorter, so you need to shorten the elastic holder on the vent tube.

Re: Battery
I have had a couple 78s and never noticed anywhere that vent tubes would hook to. I will have to re-examine. Good to know.

Paying attention to your signature, I see you have an '89 6000 STE. Me likes the 6000 STE's and Bonneville's of that generation. Aside from a Trans Am, I always had a hard time choosing which one I wanted more...

Re: Battery
You want it? LOL. Its got 174k on it and rust along with scarcity of parts is making it all but impossible to maintain. I have tons of parts from another one that I parted out also. $300 takes it as is. Still running but running rich, two flat tires.
LMK lol. Im not a great salesman because I am too honest.
