Re: Somebody HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not unusual for the crank sensor to become intermittent and not throw a code. Let us know if that doesn't solve the problem, and we'll go from there. Welcome to the club.

Re: Somebody HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It could, but let's find out the result of the crank sensor first. Generally, those are good or bad, instead of intermittent but stranger things have happened.locowbl wrote:It could be a bad ICM?

Re: Somebody HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today i noticed that my car is smoking under the spark plugs. tomorrow im gonna clean the engine and get another diagnostic. We have a family mechanic(a reliable One) and i will ask about the codes and reasons yous suggested. U guys are great I really want to fixed the car my husband and kids LOVE this car. Thanx i'll be back with updates.
Re: Somebody HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i had the same issue. driving along and car would stall but start right bck up. if this sounds like you, the problem lies with the ignition switch. after a year of beating my head against the wall and having checked everything out i decided to look at the switch. in the back of the switch are sets of contacts that look like old points.remove the back part of the switch(the gray part) using a small screwdriver and care. once open you can remove the contacts and clean them just like you would hve an old set of points. my car has not stalled sinc doing this in january.find yourself a procedure to remove the switch so that you dont ruin it or the pass key module which is mounted to it. good luck. this will work for you if the car is acting as i described. ps dont disassemble the front of the switch lots of small springs inside, i found out the hard way my self

Re: Somebody HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ignition coils were a waste of time and money. We could have told you that.
The ICM is a remote possibility, but there are 20 different things that could be the issue. I agree the crank sensor is the main culprit, but we've also seen issues where the main underhood fuse panel had issues.

I once had a problem with the MAF causing it to shut off (see link below).

Re: Somebody HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My 2001 SSei would shut down without apparent reason. It always restarted, but usually after multiple attempts. Long story short, it ended up being a corroded terminal somewhere back near or at the fuel pump. My mechanic replaced the terminal with new and problem solved. Note: It took the guy a day and a half of searching, testing, retesting, pulling hair out to find it. He's been working exclusively on Pontiacs for over 25 years.

Re: Somebody HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I second the suggestion about the ignition switch having worn contacts that lose connection with a vibration or just nothing. Not the ignition key cylinder by the steering wheel: this is the switch that you move through a long rod down the steering column when you turn the key. A mechanic can check to see if it loses contact too easily due to wear or corrosion. As the other poster said, this wouldn't be the first one to give trouble.mamired0108 wrote:Today i noticed that my car is smoking under the spark plugs. tomorrow im gonna clean the engine and get another diagnostic. Re: Somebody HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These cars don't have a switch in the column, it's in the dash, and there's no rod. It's one electronic assembly.

Out of respect for the topic author here, it would be best if you started your OWN topic and clearly state your problem.rockafella wrote:any body know a good mechanic in springfield mo. ?
