Bonneville SSEi, now only revs when in any gear

Post by kpolack »

a while back my car would buck hard when about to shift gears....when hot or not, sometimes shutting it off and letting it cool down for a bit would go back to normal shift. I replaced the MAF once after cleaning it a couple times which helped...yet after replacing the sensor that helped and the car ran smooth, no buck (it was a hard buck, felt like the engine or transmission was going to drop or blow up). Yet a year or so later, the car would still be shifting weird, I had to finesse the gas pedal, by not giving it a lot or easing the gas pedal as I felt it was about to shift gears, so it would shift..........and Only a few times the car has stalled at a dead stop(only recently).... or when I felt it was going to stall or was shifting hard, I would turn it off and on, then it drove as before, but still a delayed(slipping) shift. then a week ago I was driving on the road at about 35-40, went to press the gas and it only reved. so I pulled into a driveway, turned it off, then back on, threw it in reverse and it only reved, in any gear. I Had to get it towed home and now it only revs when putting it into any gear.

Is this a bad tranny problem or could it be something else, hopefully not the transmission.....I have no idea on most about cars, I am not a mechanic, yet am having someone look at it that is, on his off hours, I'd like to say what others have said before he says the whole tranny needs rebuilt....as far as I know.

any thoughts?

so I guess I am going to find a used tranny......its a 2000 SSEi......does it matter which type, anyone have a lead to a refurbished one.......... at least thats what I am told, he just listened and checked the fluid, which was black.....said the clutches went and he'll ask around for a used one.....

is that right?

Definately sounds like time for a new/used/rebuilt transmission.

You will need a trans from a 2000 SSEi, or for a 2000 SSEi. It's different than the older/newer ones, so they're not directly interchangeable. If you have a trustworthy re-builder in your area, that might be the best way to go.

That's what my 01 ssei was doing...the sun gear was completely stripped in the planetary set and was missing a gear. I had the tranny rebuilt because I intend on keeping the car for a few years and the rest of it is in great shape.
