The Rental 300

Post by 2000Silverbullet »

Actually it's not too bad.

The only stipulation was it had to be an American car.

Ya, it's white! That cursed colour but I don't care.
Only 3,000 km on the clock. The 2011 Chrysler 300 I reserved.

Every time I start it, the speedo defaults to MPH so I have to toggle it over to KPH.

It was supposed to be the 365hp Hemi  because the only one available was the 3.6L 290 hp Pentastar.
Probably a good thing.......save me from going to jail....

Great fuel economy though.....

Saw that coming the moment you posted about it.

Does it still move around pretty good, or is it freaking heavy?

It's got the panoramic sunroof and a great sound, navigation system. I learned how to syn my phone with bluetooth. It has a flash drive and an I-pod connection.

It took me a few minutes to learn how to start the darn thing because you don't use the key. There is just a button on the dash and it detects that the key is on you. You have to press the brake before it will start.

The doors automatically unlock when you approach it.

Ya, it's a dog with only 290 hp. Hard to spin the tires and 60 comes up about as quick as the Bonne when it was new.....7.5 sec
I have more "testing" to do with it.

Edit - I rented it in TO and now I'm in Sudbury. Heading back south next weekend.

My wife really likes this car.
60/40 split rear folding leather seats....and I really like the power double sunroof.
The Infinity stereo really rocks! Integrated flash drive, I-pod dock and Sirius satellite radio....I brought CD's for nothing.
It shifts at WOT at 6500 rpm. Auto stick 5 speed shifter.
I also like the Nav system and integrated back up camera on the huge 8.4" screen.

I can only imagine how much better it would be with the 6.4L Hemi in the SR8 version. =P~

We leave Sudbury on Sunday to go to Sault St Marie and then on Tuesday down to Port Elgin, Orangeville, St.Thomas, London and the last week in Toronto.
Hopefully I can avoid the radar......
Max speed....as shown in the Nav history.....has only been 172 kph (108 mph) ..... I'll see if I can improve on that later.

Paul.. in between Orangeville and Toronto there is Forks of the Credit road. A nice little detour with a curvy road. Keep to the 50km/h speed limit - there's lots of radar, but its still fun!

I like it!

I believe that next year or later this year (I can't remember which) they're going to an 8 speed auto. I believe the Hemis, both regular and the SRT8s, are keeping the 5 speed, however (for now).

Just don't travel 50kph over the limit (and get caught). Our "street racing" rules are SUPER strict.

They'll take the car and your license for 7 days and face a $2000 fine.

I brought back the 300 to Budget Rental last week after logging 3500 km (2100 mi) over 19 days. The trip history log only showed an indicated maximum speed of 185 kph (115 mph).

Overall we liked the car. Only once did it fail us when we found a completely dead battery one morning. My Bonne has done this before too. I think it has to do with the computer. :dontknow:

Comfortable and capable transportation, for a rental car.
I would recommend it.

I was spoiled the day after I returned it, when I got to test drive a new Corvette Grand Sport and a new CTS-V sedan. Ya, I'm dreaming about owning either one now.......

I saw one of these with the temporary new sale sheet in the rear window yesterday. The back end is a bit iffy the way it curves from the sides under, and the bumper mirrors it but with a chrome piece with weird ends..

I didn't rent it for the looks. It is a little fugly IMO.

It performed well.
The sound system rocked.
The Nav system was a pleasure.
It handled well.
The fuel economy was decent.
Nothing passed me on the highway.
Plenty of room and very comfortable. Mom loved the backseat.
Huge sunroof. Great A/C.
Family and friends were impressed.

I quite like the 300, looks wise. Nice interior too - a big improvement on the previous model. Ridiculous clock though!

They're going to be selling it it mainland Europe as a Lancia. Daft idea.... Thankfully in the UK it will remain a Chrysler.
