I ran over a deer or some other large mammal while barreling down a lonely interstate in Montana a few years back either going to or coming from a WCBF meet. All it did was rip the rear O2 sensor and shield and wiring from the car and caught the rear bumper cover and tore it a little by the right exhaust tip. It was at night and the person who was trying to keep up with me said he was trying to figure out what was going on. He said by the light movement it looked like literally ran over something. He moved to the other lane and managed to miss it.
I never got a check engine light from the missing O2 because I had a Intense PCM and they turned off the rear O2 I stopped, got a wire cutter out of the tool kit, and cut the dangling appendage off and continued on with the trip.
Once, driving down a state highway at night in a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse, doing about 50mph, I hit something that sounded HUGE! I never even saw it as it went under the passenger side tires. Pulled over a mile or two later to inspect and there was blood splattered on the passenger side door, I thought it must have been a huge dog or something. Drove past the next day and there was a small raccoon in the road no bigger than a rabbit, couldn't believe it.
Also had a deer actually jump in to and dent the fender of my 1988 Iroc-Z Camaro, I was totally stopped, so pissed off

I ran over a raccoon in my '84 Buick Century and the only damage it did was to rip the plastic air dam/stone deflector below the front bumper loose. I re-attached it as best I could but driving through a heavy rainstorm a few months later pulled it loose again, so I just took it off. The car didn't seem to suffer any ill effects from its absence.

Two years ago when driving my 67 Mustang late on a Friday night to a Goodguys show in Columbus, OH I hit a racoon on HWY 53 comming out of Tiffin. The thing about this was that I saw a small racoon in the road at the last second and swerved to avoid hitting it, but when I did that I hit the bigger racoon that had just started to cross the road I as made the move to avoid the smaller one.

A few years back I told my Mom to leave her LeSabre at my house so it didn't get dinged up in the airport parking lot. I only live three miles from the airport and could save her the $30 parking fee as well. Leave the car at my house I assured her. So a guy in a '70 Cadillac convertible pulls in my driveway and drops off my Mom. (I was thinking maybe she has a boyfriend now.) She said she hit a deer about 1.5 miles from my house and was afraid to try and drive it any further. So I took her to the airport and then drove her car to my house and started getting estimates while she was away on vacation. It was a $5200 repair bill!
Not only that but neither the guy in the Caddy nor myself could find the deer she whacked!.
It pushed the radiator within an inch or two from the motor, cracked the drivers side front fender and left parts of it's fur embedded in the plastic, and bent the bumper, hood and some other support pieces. But we saved the $30 parking bill!
I've hit a bunch of stuff, ran over a BIG coon one night, hit a skunk, that sucked getting the smell off, killed a few birds with the windshield and millions of bugs, lol.
I don't feel bad for hitting animals. Natural Selection at its finest.
Bye Bye: RIP sandrock

I sure hope you wouldn't feel that way if an elk decided to join you in the drivers seat. - BC

Until I read the post after yours I was confused about the 4x4 part. "Really, you ran over a Bronco II or something?" This is what happens when I read before I've had my coffee.
Snakes. And the occasional game of "splat the can", so long as the lanes are clear.

One time, I caught a pigeon on my windshield as it was trying to fly across a highway width wise. Got some feathers stuck in my windshield wipers but that's about it. I think the bird lived.

I used to own a 1988 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. Big boat of a car. One day I was chasing seagulls around an empty parking lot with it. It was all good and fun since as slow as that thing was there was no way I'd actually hit anything. So I had my fun frightening the birds a bit and decided to leave.
I pulled out of the parking lot and onto the 35 mph zone, reached into the back seat, opened a cooler, grabbed a Stewart's Key Lime soda, popped the lid, started to take a swig. At that exact swig-taking moment, a seagull swooped down from out of sight, got clobbered right at the front right headlight area, rolled up the acre and a half of hood, and got caught in the windshield wiper trap. It slowly slid down the trap and off the car. I inhaled a little of the soda and almost went into hysterics laughing so hard.
That had to be the most comical roadkill ever and its timing was enough to make me think it was done on a dare from the other seagulls.

Buick Somerset = Some large bird flew up out of the ditch. Its talons left scratches up the hood and it took out the passenger side wiper. Never saw it after I hit it.
Bonneville = Hit a sparrow with a fog light. No damage. Maybe a squirrel or two.
G8 = One squirrel so far, no damage.
I've been riding in an old Impala wagon and an Explorer when my parents each hit a deer. Messed up a front corner pretty good with each, though the Impala took it pretty well.
