Headlight washer mod/gag

Discuss washing, waxing and detailing information as well as interior/exterior cosmetic modifications. This includes neons, body, cosmetic wheels, etc. Even under the hood detailing.

Headlight washer mod/gag

Post by hammerheart »

I'm still in the brain storming phase, but since this isn't performance related and is more of a cosmetic kind of thing I figured I'd post it here.

One of my four nozzles for my headlight washers is missing and when I try to use them it sprays about 15' in front of the car in a tall arch. This got me to thinking about rigging them all to do similar.

For safety reasons I'd disconnect the pump for the front sprayers from the wiper fluid reservoir (I have no desire to squirt someone with something toxic), plug that sucker, and fashion a dedicated reservoir for just water so as to assault hapless pedestrians around campus.

I'd like to know if any other practical jokers out there have tried something similar. I'd love ideas about equipping narrow-stream nozzles for better range. Water gun nozzles or something similar maybe...

I know this is a brilliant and totally unoriginal idea that could land me in trouble, but I still think it would be fun with discriminating use. I'm not the type that goes about irritating total strangers; I would only use it to irritate friends and acquaintances (including enemies).

Suggestions?

I've heard of this being done before but don't know the first thing about making it happen. A guy I knew was tired of people getting too close to his Plymouth Belvedere GTX at shows so he rigged something up so he could spray them if needed.

If you get it working, I guess just use caution and don't be surprised if people are pissed after the initial surprise.

Seeing people's reactions is half the fun! Doubly so if I have a Flip camera mounted to the dash...

Like I said, I would only target people I know. I'm not malicious, just mischievous, and what kind of friend would I be if I didn't share water during this brutal Texas summer heat?

The older ones were. It seems that feature was abandoned in 95 or 96.

I just figured out how to activate them today and then had my idea before the water hit the ground.

92-95 SSE/i's had headlight sprayers, but no wipers. Kinda worthless, IMO.

Even the 88-91 SSE had the sprayers, and they had their own tank for it as well.

I'd love headlight sprayers for the road salt we get up by me. Even when the roads are dry there's still salt dust being kicked up by the traffic. It coats headlights something fierce, and really reduces light output.
