A/C problem

Post by AJT2004 »

Posted this in the GXP section at first, by mistake.

The air blowing out of the vents only gets around 70 degrees(the dial is on the coldest setting), and there is a full charge of refrigerent in

the lines. Any ideas on what could be wrong? thanks

Excuse the dumb question, but does the compressor properly cycle?

Let me ask:

Was the compressor engaged and the system running with the blower on HIGH?

How did you measure the pressures? Gauges?

I use an InterDynamics gauge that goes from can to can I bought at Walmart. The good range is 25 to 40 PSI on the low side. I measure that as I fill by running the engine above idle, a fan blowing on the condenser in front of the car like it was going along at 20 mph or so.

But not seeing the high side pressure is like feeling an elephant in the dark.

I do know the factory service manuals say that after running and coming to equilibrium the metal tube leaving the evaporator at the firewall should be colder than the ingoing tube.

You don't mention what conditions you were in while getting the 70 deg out. What was the outside temp? How fast is the engine running?

Yes the compressor was on, and i was using the gauge that i fill the lines with refrigerent.

Yes it was hot outside(prob 92 degrees), even with the fans on recirculate the air will never get cold. thanks for the response
