New Rims and Tires!!

Post by 00Beast »

So we've had our 67 C20 for 2 years now, and just now got around to replacing the 17.5" wheels with some nice 16" Cragars and 265/75R16 Firestone Transforce A/T's. The wheels & tires really make the truck look much beefier. Now it's time to back that look up with a nice SBC and we'll be all set!

They just got installed today, and the pics were with my camera phone. I'll get it washed up and get some better pics maybe this weekend.

I'm thinking a nice crate 350. Somewhere around 300 HP. Considering we paid $1,200 for the truck, $2k in a motor is still a lot, lol.

Big block would fit great, but just more $$$ and work, lol.

Here's what I got to work with:

Looks good both ways.

I'd say get a smaller engine and an RV cam. Then it'll be quick around town, still get decent fuel mileage, and pull a good load on the highway with acceptable response.

Looks Sweet Ed!
I, Personally would probably go with a 350. Its a pretty simple to do motor. And its all you really need for good power. My brother makes 520/600 with his 383 (still a 350 block). That's just my .02 everyone is entitled to their opinion.

396 was only in the trucks in 68, then it was badged 402 on the trucks when GM bored it out, but remained being labeled 396 in the cars due to the reputation.

My plan is this engine: http://www.jegs.com/p/GM-Performance/GM ... 7/10002/-1
Either the longblock version or the Deluxe version, haven't decided yet. I plan on adding a little bumpier cam for a few more ponies, push it over the 300 HP mark.

A 327 would be year correct for the engine, since the 350 was only in cars in 67, but since it's a small block, I don't care. We have a 327 in an old grain truck, but by the time I pulled it, had it machined, assembled with new gaskets, etc it would be well over that price anyways. This way I get a warranty should something go wrong.

I'm with Don on this one. This would be a nice setup for that truck.

My friend had a 70 Chevy PU with a 350 and an RV Cam... Had the turbo 400... By the time the truck hit the grave yard it had in the area of 330,000 miles on it... Towed 3000-5000 Lbs like it was nothing... Didn't even struggle running the interstate with a dead weight behind it... It was a great set up for towing and hauling and around the town driving...

Ed the Crate engine you are looking at does have some good parts in it... And I like whats listed... It takes a little more to drive the Turbo 400... If you were to buy the crate motor or rebuild I would still attach it to a Turbo 400...

God I love those old trucks

Washed it and waxed it this afternoon. I took some more pics this evening, forgive that it's in the driveway and the lighting is poor, but it is a Farm Truck. I'll get some better pics tomorrow hopefully.

Too bad the shortblock is almost double the price Matt. I'd rather find a junkyard 454, but that isn't happening either. Nice 350 4-bolt gives me plenty of power and advancement opportunities. I'd love to eventually get a 6.0L and ZF6 trans for great power and fuel economy.
