FE2 upgrade questions

Post by grey3800 »

First off, quick update (and reasoning for spending more money on my bonne):

After a collapsed lifter, engine was fully rebuilt (for fun!), all new surfaces.

Soon After a failed 1-2 sprag, transmission rebuilt.

She's back in action, lots of fun to drive.....minus the suspension.

250k miles and original suspension, my parts list is below. I would like to replace and upgrade to something more sporty

Font:
Spring - Moog CC658
Strut - Monroe 71822

Rear:
Spring - Moog CC653
Strut - Monroe 71799

Swaybars - seems like no longer available new.

Questions:
Does my parts list look ok for a FE2-like suspension?

Doing my research on the forum, I read that upgrading the rear springs to FE2 REQUIRES air struts, can someone confirm? Not getting the air struts may make things worse??

I am ready to pull the trigger, wanted some input first. thanks :)

Finding better sways isn't impossible, watch for people parting out SSE/i's on here from 92-99. Definitely get poly urethane endlink kits regardless if you upgrade or not.

Swapping out the front one is a PITA. I'd recommend doing rear only to save a lot of time, and to increase turn-in on the car. Upgrading the rear only promotes more front end grip, and makes the car feel more neutral than the understeering pig it is stock. Doing the front will help but it takes a couple hours really, and is easiest to accomplish through the passenger side wheel well.

Ill keep on the lookout for a replacement sway, there are a number of junkers around here I can explore....

Can anyone comment on whether FE2 springs require the use of the ELC air struts?

thanks guys.

Where is the best source for the poly end links? I've seen them in Autozone and Pep Boys, but "universal" always leaves some doubts about fitment.

gray3800, yes it's a great idea to add air-struts, even with a manual fill kit.

Ghosthawk, crawl underneath and measure your current ones, then go find the kit that measures the same.
Bye Bye:
