There are a number of 'best' oil filters. None of them say FRAM on them. I personally use K&N on one car, and AC Delco (larger size) on the other two.

AC Delco, Purolator Pure One, Mobil 1, Wix, NAPA Gold, CarQuest (Premium?), K&N, and Amsoil EaO are all good oil filters. It all depends on your budget, operating conditions and oil type are. Any of those will work fine on a daily driven 3800.

Any name brand except Fram. I'm partial to Purolator, Wix, and Mobil 1 filters myself.

Okay, sorta off topic, why not Fram? I've been using High Mileage Fram HM3980 for quite some time now, over 10 years (with 100% synthetic). - BC

Fram is the worst independently rated oil filter on the market today. They are notorious for element separation during their life cycle. Most of the internals are glue and cardboard.

I would have to say that's a really good reason not to use them. Thanks - BC

Edit - Okay, Bill got me looking and so, here is a video I found on YouTube. - Well worth watching if you like/use Fram - never again by me. Thanks Bill, Wish I knew this 10 years ago. - BC

Edit 2 - Another You Tube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrG26IUV ... re=related
and someone posted Pureone is the best - BC

Edit 5/24 Pure One air and oil filters came today. I can see and feel a major difference in them from the Fram filters. Like I said after watching the videos, I'll neve own a Fram again. - BC

The ultra-high-end Fram Extended Guard is a decent filter. It's built like a tank, completely unlike their cheaper filters. The downside is that they run $10 or more each, and are never on sale.

I use Napa Gold any time I buy locally, but if I ever dip into the US I always stock up on Purolator Pure One.

Considering how crappy their O2 sensors, plugs, and wires have done on any of my GM cars, no. I wouldn't buy one of their oil filters, either.

I have a Bosch sitting here as a spare for one of our pickups because it was cheaper to get it free with the oil than the oil would normally be, then I got a PureOne, lol.
