Knocking noise from rocker arm cover when it is off idle. *The car has not run since last April.*

If by "Rocker arm cover" you mean Valve cover...it may be lifter tick. Does the noise seem unnoticable when the engine is revving?
1997 Bonneville SLE...(SilverStreak)...Totaled...1/25/13...Gone but not forgotten.
