Trying to replace OE rear speakers!

Post by taylorman2004 »

Hello, my name is Chris. I have an 04 bonneville that the OE speakers have blown out. I am TRYING to replace these but have run into a couple snags. I know that I have to take out the upper portion of the back seat. I am not 100% sure on how this is done. The engineer that thought of this way to put the speakers in had good intentions but I bet never had to replace them...lol. Now I see the body clips on the top part by the shelf but can only release 2 of them. What else is holding this DANG seat back in? Any help would be great. Thank you.

There are 4 clips on the back of the upper seat back than you can release with a long flat blade screwdriver, Just push down on them and they will pop out. Then use an 18mm socket to remove the bolts at the bottom. Remove seat section.

Use a pry tool to release the 2 push in retainers that hold the rear shelf in.

Remove the rear C-pillars.

Now you should be able to lift the rear shelf, and pull it out. There will be some foam that will be holding it in on the backside. Do your best not to destroy it, but it has to be torn to come out, poor design.

To remove the speakers, use a 7mm socket. The speakers are also glued in, so you will need to pry them out of their hole.

Good luck!

yes it is a small world...lol. Anyway I am going to replace the stereo now and the connection thing I bought at walmart will not fit. What is it that I would need to connect this thing up? I found a wire kit on amazon but I was wondering if the chimes will be affected by this? And if so where could I get the right part to solve that problem? This is turning into a headache...lol. The reason why I am changing out the head to an aftermarket is because the CD player quit working. And not only that half the LED lights don't work anymore.

If you want to avoid the headache, I can repair your cd player and display bulbs for a reasonable cost.

I'm not really up to date on the aftermarket scene though.
