drivers side park light

Post by gold8165 »

2002 bonneville.the drivers side park light doesn't work, changed bulb still no go.Pulled whole assembly out and tested main plug with multimeter no power.Signal light works fine.Could a faulty module cause one light not to get power? Doesn't seem likely but thought i would ask.

I can't help much with that but will note that it could be the lamp fixture itself or an internal component (socket). Something similar once on my Regal. I replaced the lamp and it didn't work. I had the original "faded" headlamp unit and replaced that and it was fine. Something about the RockAuto non OEM (cheap) replacement part. The cost difference between it and factory was enough for me to ditch the foggy fixture (the whole assembly)

Another issue I had with the Rock Auto cheapo part was that the light ray pattern was completely different from the other original headlamp. For me it was downright disruptive. They replaced it with a second brand, same issues with either aftermarket part. These were OEM "style" so from the outside they looked the same and are overall same spec (lamp, wiring, etc.). The factory variant was (if I recall correctly) several times more money. (maybe $60 vs. $200+? if someone knows better please correct me.). So even before the Rock parts started malfunctioning it was already substandard. Meanwhile could it be in the socket or fixture? Could be wiring?

Did you hook a test light or multimeter onto the prongs in the bulb housing itself, to make sure it's getting power there? I'd start at the end and work in.
Bye Bye:

(drivers side) First i tested the prongs were the actual bulb plugs in,no power except on signal side. Then behind that i unplugged the main connector (that powers headlights park-lights signal) and pulled out the whole assembly (headlights and side marker) and tested for power on those prongs and there is no power coming from the park light prong. The passenger side same prong is powered

It seems that some loose connections benefit from warming of the wiring which creates expansion, hence connection. If it seems to work better when the wiring or some other part might be warmed up (my radio lamp does this) then it's likely heat related. Of course the question then becomes where is the disconnect? Just gotta love the word "Intermittent" (sigh) I hope it reveals itself quickly.

The Haynes manual is vague for a 2002 bonny..anyone know were i can get a decent wiring diagram for park lights? Or info would help also.I noticed the purple wire is the park wire and should be hot but isn't on drivers side. When tracing purple wire from light seems to be going to passenger side through the harness near the radiator. What i am wondering is, does the power to the drivers side park light come from the passenger side (origin). If so should be easy to find problem because passenger side light works and if passenger side is origin of needed drivers side power that would mean the break in the wire is right in front of car behind front bumper coming from passenger side.Any info would be great.

Found a wiring diagram for left park and right park side marker lamps. Its to cold outside right now but looking at the diagram it should not be to hard to find the problem.Looks to me the power for the park light is coming from the fuse block underhood. The harness comes from fuseblock to passenger side lights then crosses over to drivers side behind radiator.
