SHE'S WOUNDED!!!

Post by SUSPECT 0 »

I was driving down the highway at about 70 mph when suddenly................I'll let you guys figure the rest out.

Do you notice anything odd about this tire?........I love BIG O tires.

Image

Keep in my mind that this was not a blowout, more like a catastrophic tire treadcap failure, amazingly
the cables on the tire actually held up and the tire stayed inflated.
I guess BIG O tires aren't complete crap.....only about 99%

The main reason I posted this is that I am curious as to whether or not anyone knows where I can
find these plastic fearing retainers circled here in the picture, I have been unlucky at the auto part stores and was wondering if anyone knew a place that I could get them online.

WTF. That sucks SO BADLY.

How old was that tire? Still under warranty? I'd set in a claim if its under 4 years old and you have your receipt!

Ugh, I second the suckage. I saw a MINT second gen Sable tore up by a blowout when I worked at walmart. I only hope I don't have to take one like that. I also ask the question, how old are the tires?

If they are under warranty definitely file something against them for damages.

OUCH!!!

Your best bet on getting those clips cheap might be a junkyard. Might luck out find a replacement fender there as well. After all, the thrill of the hunt is half the fun. I always find myself going in for one thing and end up coming out with four or five others.

I do not specifically know how old the tires are, I'm guessing around five years, they look like typical tires that have been used
(I got the car for free last year with these tires on it) I doubt they are still under warranty and even if they were I don't have proof of purchase.
I would make an insurance claim, if I had FULL coverage but I don't (liability only) #-o

I probably will end up going to a junkyard for the clips and the fender as well, but I would prefer to find these clips brand new rather than used.

Don't buy them from GMPD or the dealer, they are mega expensive.

You can get them from http://www.clipsandfasteners.com for cheap. Is there a part number on the clips to cross reference?

I had a lot of these at one time, but I sold them to 95naSTA
.

How to determine the age of the tires: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/ ... ?techid=11

I'd at least contact the maker and see if they would do something. Looks like it's a chain, and obviously their name-brand is the cheapest tire: http://www.bigotires.com/

I get mine from the Chevy dealer. The clips are used on many makes and models of GM vehicles. Cost isn't too bad either. That's if you don't want to wait for http://www.gmpartsdirect.com - BC

Holy crap! Remind me to never buy re-treads! (At least I am assuming they were re-treads?)

I highly doubt they were re-treads, just poorly made cheap tires.

Not trying to start anything, but tire inflation does play a role into the tread delaminating. Low air pressure can heat the tread up and cause the tread to do exactly what it did for you. But also like 00Beast said poor tire quality could be the source of your problem. I hope that your able to find everything you need to repair your car.

And a distant second, I think, is overloading. I know 'cause like a d%&b a$$, I did it. Once was all it took for me. - BC
