I think "'d be counting my blessings that it worked out as well as it did...could easilyhave been much worse. But you come away with some fresh perspective, and a much keener sense of your future business dealings, so an ugly day to be sure, but it will pay benefits for a long time to come.

I called the detective in Todd County on Tuesday because I was expecting to hear from Hennepin County on Monday. He couldn't really give me any solid information, because they aren't really leading the case. He said to give him a call back next week if I haven't heard from them by then.

I'm assuming this is going to proceed in a rather slow manner.

Well I have positive news. I got a call from the detective I have been working with. He said that the Hennepin County detective met with the two guys that I bought the car from. They are cooperating with the detectives and claim to be victims in this as well. They have a receipt from the guy they bought it from. I was told I should be expecting a call from the guys I bought the car from today.

About an hour ago, he called me. He told me he was trying to make things right, and that he could offer me $700 back. I told him I needed the full amount. He said they paid $250 for the car, so if he gave me the full amount back, he would be out the $250. I said tough luck, I'll talk with the detective again to get this figured out.

At this point, I went and spoke with the detective and asked him what I should do, take the $700 and walk away, or try and get my full $950 back. He told me to call the Hennepin County detective to see what she thinks since she is more involved in this case.

When I talked to her, she said that they aren't required to give me anything back, since they are also a victim. I could take them to civil court if I wanted, but there is a possibility I might not win. At this point, I decided I was just going to take the $700 and walk. While I was talking with her, they called again, and said they thought about it, and they just want to do what is right, and offer me the full $950 back. I was surprised. They said they were going to send out a money order today.

Got another call just minute ago stating they would like to meet in person so they can get a receipt for the transaction just to make sure everything stays out in the open. They said the detective will drop the case on them if they give me the full money back with receipt. I'm heading south this weekend, so I plan to meet up with them.

Hope it all works out! :???:

It sucks that you have had to go through all this. At least it does sound like you'll be getting all your money back. Having this whole fiasco behind you will probably be a load of your back.

I called the detective down in Hennepin again and told her how they want to meet up. She advised me not to meet up with them, probably not the safest thing. She said her scare tactic is sure working on them... because there actually isn't a case against them, she just wants to see me get my money back.

I called them up again and explained it would be better if they mailed the MO certified mail, and I will send them a confirmation letter stating I received it, so they can be "cleared".

I left it at the impound lot in Long Prairie.

I found out from the detective that State Farm technically owns the car. I contacted them to see if I could buy it back from them, but apparently they just send all their cars to CoPart, so if I want it, I'd need to bid on it. Probably won't end up with it..

I was just looking at your original post again, and I'm surprised that no one commented on the fact that the ad said 2003, but it really is a 2000.

If id have known you were headed south Id have ad you bring me some stuff.

Nice that youre getting youre money back, and of course property crimes usually fall by the wayside, too many rapes murders and speeding cases to prosecute.

You should have requested to meet up with them @ the Hennepin County Sheriffs Office, even in the parking lot, or some other municipal law enforcement parking lot that was convenient for the both of you.

I really feel bad for you. But everyday is a learning experience good or bad. This will make you stronger as a person now you know what not to look for. I bought my Bonneville SE at an police auction and found weed under the carpet in the trunk and a .22 Caliper pistol under the carpet on the driver side by the door :btruestory: ( Laughing as I type this :bsnicker: at the itty bitty .22 not a real gun in my opinion). The crazy part was that I didn't find these until I was in the middle of installing my amp and subs for my car and found them by mistake. Turned both in and had them search the rest of vehicle only to find more weed and .22 bullets and also .380 special bullets and brass shell casings. A wild day for me but I learned from it. Hope you learned from your day and pull through.....
