I wouldn't do HID high beams. Too much warm-up time, by the time they'd actually be useful you would probably have to shut them off again for oncoming traffic...

Not too worried about that, I simply wont use them in town and will strictly run highs on the long dark country roads. I figure hid lows will handle everything I need for the most part and will upgrade the lows first before the highs. However none of this will happen til I find a shorter projector

I'd keep a halogen high beam, then keep your HID low beams on with the highs so there's no chance of traveling several seconds at 70 mph without headlights. That's several hundred feet in that span of time you could travel without knowing what is ahead. It's enough time to fly off an unseen corner or smash into an animal by the time HID high beams light up. The constant on/off cycling will also cook the ballasts of both the highs and lows in no time.

All but the GXP's do Jerry. Not sure why they changed it for the GXP.

I'm sure it has something to do with that, I'm just not sure why. Maybe they were concerned with heat?

That or to compensate for the increased light output of the hirs for legality and what not.
Anyhow, im still looking for short projectors. Junkyard guys, keep an eye out for vehicles with projector headlights shoot me a pm with what you found and if possible the length of the projector. If they are what I need I will pay you for your trouble

Having run a quad projector setup with HID highs, I don't recommend it...
Keep the highs halogen or run bixenon, it's a much better setup for functionality. HID takes too long to warm up, blue light scatters far more than white (meaning while they are warming up it's like they aren't even on, which is about 20 seconds), damage to the bulbs and ballasts will occur from constant on/off, and you completely lose the ability to flash anyone with your high beams, as the long warmup makes them go completely unnoticed.
They are less than 5.5" in overall length, and use 9005 bulbs meaning you have the option to use HIR highs. Great choice for excellent high beam output.

After driving with the HIR highs for a few weeks, I'd highly recommend them. It's much brighter than any 9005 out there, and puts far more light onto the road. It's not HID bright, but with 5000 lumens from both bulbs they're still brighter than almost anybody else's high beams.

I like the hella 60mm high projector. Matter of fact, if I do a different retro at some point, Ill probably use them. I really like the quad projector look but wasnt that brave I guess.

swampthing wrote:Gave that thought however that means hacking the reflector housing apart since the low and high are the same unit
Revisited this idea today, after taking another look as the stock reflector housings I believe the high can be cut and remounted without issue, since I can't find short enough projectors within my budget, the revised plan is hid projector lows and hir reflector highs
