only issue with 87 bonne i have is the heat is poor

the heat in this car sucks and im not sure why, yet. im going to see if the dealer will look at it while its still under warranty. i dont know if they used a 165 degree thermostat or if the diverter valve isnt opening all of the way, or if the heater core is plugged up. other than that, this car now runs awesome. i love the fuel mileage, for larger car they are really great on gas.

Is the blower fan iworking properly (lo med hi) and diverting air to where you want it (windshield, floor, dash)? Where is the coolant level? Is the overflow tank full? Low coolant can starve a heater core. Check the coolant in the morning before the car has been started by opening the radiator. The coolant should be to the top of the radiator. The overflow tank should be at the cold line. When you have confirmed the coolant level is up, and after the car has warmed up, (top radiator hose should be hot) check the temperature of the two hoses going to and from the heater core. If the heater core is plugged up solid, both hoses will be cool, the one from the engine to the core a little warmer near the engine. If the heater core is almost completely plugged, there will be a big difference in the temperature of the hoses - inlet hot, return much cooler. If both heater hoses are hot, that suggests that hot coolant is flowing through the core and that the problem is that the ductwork is not allowing air to flow through the heater core and into the cabin. If you have one or can borrow one, an infrared thermometer is really helpful for checking temperatures of hoses in the engine compartment. If you have to check them by feel, it is probably a good idea to do so quickly after you have shut the engine down. Fixing human bodies is much more costly than replacing heater cores.

my 87's heat was sorta weak a few months back, i cleaned the evap core and that solved my probs.
