So I got a Aeroforce Interceptor. A couple of questions...

Post by Boreas »

First off, the MPG reading seems inaccurate and is awfully optimistic. On my drive to work which is very typical it recorded an average MPG of 34, but usually when I calculate by hand it works out to be 24 mpg, which seems to be a much more reasonable number. Is there a way to fix this? I thought the PCM tracks the MPG, or does the scangauge calculate it?

Also what is MPG DM? That number is really crazy, when I have just MPG its a reasonable number, but MPG DM shows something like 170 MPG. (I wish, hahah!)

Also, when looking for KR (eventually when I start modding, not now) There is Knock Retard #'s 1, 2, and 3. Do I need to look at all 3 or just #1?

Also for the 92-99 gen, cig lighter seems to be the ideal spot to mount, but where do you relocate the cig receptacle? Im looking for ideas as I still need it to power my accessories and such.

Thanks very much!

The website for the scan gauge would most likely answer most of your questions. The (DM) you are refering to is for the Duramax deisel. So anything in the menu with (DM) next to it will only be supported by the Duramax. Not sure right off hand about the KR.
I mounted mine where the cig. lighter was, but simply left it disconnected. I think you could possibly relocate it below the radio. Where the previous owner drilled one for me. Would have to lengthen the wires but that might be an option.Image

I didn't move the lighter but I added two. I put them on the right hand side of the console, they look pretty good there. Ill get a picture of them later on tonight.

Do you mean a LinearLogic ScanGauge II? If so, then the MPG takes a few tanks to calibrate. Mine read high the first couple of tanks until it got enough data. Right now it's off by maybe half a gallon at the most.

No, I believe he's incorrectly referring to it. I believe he means he's got an AeroForce Interceptor Gauge. And yes, that's for duramax AFAIK.

All I did was splice in some wire and I drilled a couple holes, and both those outlets work. You may need to trim that metal retainer down that screws onto the back of the outlets, that panel is thicker than the original location.

Here is how I have mine.

Im an idiot (which is no surprise), I was indeed talking about the Aeroforce Interceptor. I've corrected this post to reflect this.

So it seems to correct the MPG, you have to adjust the factor. Since im stock, and the gauge assumes 300 HP, I had to adjust my factor by dividing 240(stock HP) by that number in order to enter in a correction factor of 0.80. So now I have what seems to be more reasonable MPG numbers.

I've never used mine for mileage, although I have the DIC, lol. It is a much better performance gauge than the ScanGauge, those are much better for a basic user who wants to monitor mileage, read codes and scan a little. The Aeroforce is more performance oriented. Where did you see that it assumes 300 HP?

From the downloadable manual. Its not explicit in saying that it assumes 300 HP, but I dont know how else it would know otherwise. In the example it used, it was saying to divide 300 by whatever actual horsepower you have for the correction factor. I dont know why they didnt make this more obvious as this is confusing, unless im missing something.

Does anybody know what scalar value our MAF sensors are, or how to find out? It seems that using that as a correction factor would yield a more accurate MPG reading.

This is how you set the "HP correction" feature on your Aeroforce.

1) Run your engine on a dyno to get your estimated HP
2) Display the "HP" parameter and record the max value from the gauge
3) Find the % difference and set your aeroforce to match.
Ex: If your gauge says 300 and your dyno run say 315*, you would enter a factor of "105". If your guage said 315 and the dyno says 300, you would enter "095".

I would assume that the Aeroforce attemps to calculate HP at the crank, so removing the driveline loss from your dyno output would probably be best. I think driveline loss can be estimated around 17-20%?

Aeroforce also acts like you can use your displayed average MPG vs calculated MPG (as in miles traveled/gallons) % difference as the correction value. I would think that the HP or MAF adjustments would be more accurate.
