Poll: if pontiac was brought back from the dead

Chat about all things Bonneville (and related cars). Off-topic stuff should be in the lounge, and all mechanical problems should be posted in the proper forum.

If Pontiac was brought back from the dead would you invest in the company or not?

I would invest in Pontiac with no questions asked and buy the cars

Poll: if pontiac was brought back from the dead

Post by ricosuave420 »

hey, i was just thinking, i know its like 99.9% sure that pontiac is gone  forever  , if by some miracle pontiac was brought back from the dead, would you, with no questions asked invest your money to keep pontiac going? or would you be hesitant bc of the *@#$ performance of management that GM showed in the last few years? or not invest in pontiac at all? just want to know what you guys think, but if your answer is not in the poll, please if you wouldnt mind elaborating what your mind set is, thanks ( i personally would invest in pontiac without any hesitation) and when i say invest i mean buy their stocks, not buy their cars, thanks

(please let me know if the poll doesnt work, bc when i tried it it said "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again.") if the admins or moderators or someone of seniority could please let me know why that's happening, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Poll feature isn't working right now. I believe they are working on fixing that.

I have no problem buying another Pontiac if they brought it back if they had something I liked. Unfortunately I think its gone...

If they brought it back and made it right, I would probably buy one. However, there wouldn't be much of a way to invest in Pontiac other than buying GM stock, as GM isn't selling their trademark, etc of Pontiac anytime soon.

The polls aren't working and we aren't sure why. It will be fixed with the next forum update.

No, the mistakes GM made with Pontiac were the Sunfire, G5, G6, etc. Pontiac's selling point was that they were different and sportier than anything else, and that was just not the case during the last decade or three of Pontiac's existence. They were just another one of the same GM cars with a different fascia and badges. They lost their identity, and once they had started re-gaining it with the G8, GM went down the crapper and it was too far gone to save.

Now with Bob Lutz gone and his ridiculous ideas about transforming Pontiac into the "American BMW" I would be eager to see what might come to the showroom.

I always loved Pontiac's "in your face" attitude, and the Bonneville is a clear example of that style. I blogged about this dilemma last year.

Actually, I beg to differ. The sales of the Sunfire and G6 were MUCH stronger than the rebadges Cavalier also known as the GTO.

I'd love to hear how the Solstice was a mistake... It's easily top 5 of what they've made ever. With the G8/GTO holden cars being in there as well. Pontiac should've been 100% rear wheel drive, or atleast 100% sport oriented.

GTO, was a failure on marketing, and when fuel prices shot up overnight the first time. The car is awesome, Blackhawk wont like it as an F-Body guy tho [-X It's exactly what the oringal GTO is, a normal coupe with a hot rod engine and a couple tweaks to the look.

I glowed and fawned over the Solstice from the first time it rolled onto the car show dias, but I cant begin to count how many people I heard ask, "where's the trunk?"

The venerable Mazda Miata retains trunk space even on the folding hardtop models...you cant get so much as a pizza box in the back of a Solstice, much less an overnight duffle bag.

I would like a solstice, especially a gxp, I love the G8, and I kinda dig the GTO but only for the V8... If they came back I would buy a Trans-Am to match my 85
It is always interesting to think what a 2011 Bonneville would look like and if they would have brought back the Grand Prix name for the G8. I for one hope that by some miracle they bring back Pontiac.

My thoughts exactly! Pontiac was ALWAYS supposed to be a performance brand! If you ask me, there should never have been a Montana, Trans-sport, or the ugliest production vehicle EVER, the Aztek. Soon as I saw the Aztek I was ashamed to be a Pontiac man. That thing had NO BUSINESS wearing an arrowhead!!!

I have to agree about the Aztek. It's got to be the ugliest thing ever to wear the Pontiac brand and one of the ugliest American cars ever to roll off an assembly line. The Buick Rendezvous was by far a more attractive execution of the same concept. Oddly enough, it may have just been a bit ahead of its time when you look at some of the crossovers and "box" cars on the market today.

The G5 was a joke. The G6 was a decent looking, popular mid-size car. The G8 could've saved Pontiac if it had been the Bonneville's replacement in 2006. Instead it was an incredible car, but it came too late...

I realize I might opening myself up for some ridicule here, but so be it. I'm the flip side of the coin on the Aztek. It was a marketing disaster and the finished product was so far removed from the concept car that was shown it was like comparing chalk to cheese. But nowadays you can barely find one on the used car lots. I personally drove to North Carolina to purchase a nice used one, and my wife and I love it. It is hands down one of the most versatile vehicles we have ever owned, and I like it much better that the mini-vans we had previously.

I'll be the first to admit its styling isnt the most attractive I've ever seen, but I fail to anything AT ALL appealing about the Buick Rendevous. I'm sorry, but to me that is the single most butt-ugly vehicle I've ever laid eyes on, as if it had been regurgitated by a dinosaur.

I'm also with Beast on the G6. I had the opportunity to drive several versions, and the twin cam GXP car was no slouch. It was decently roomy for a small car, and if the G6 vert had only provided a minimal amount of trunk space I would have bought one of those over my Sebring, but alas, it had none...only storage space for the folding top.

The G8 was a double tuff ride that got here too late and received little to no adverts whatsoever. The Vauxhall and Holden versions overseas are wildly popular cars. To me, the Vauxhall VXR8 smacks of the kind of car Pontiac used to make...and I love it!

G6 are ok, better than a chevy counterpart (malibu is same basic platform?)

Solstice was totally owned by the designers. Window switch, cup holder placement, etc is pretty wonky to get the design they wanted. The trunk is laughable! But it's the best driving GM car around, awesome on a track, and fairly inexpensive and reliable.

In my opinion, If GM has brought the G8 to Pontiac 5 years earlier we might not be having this discussion....

The 97-03 grand prix is the only car that i felt made the pontiac brand worthwhile. The bonneville, sunfire, and firebird were too similar to the lesabre and cavalier, and camaro, IMO. But i do think the pontiac variants all looked better.
