1997 Bonneville Carpets SOAKED!!!!
Everytime i go out to my car, my carpets on the driver side are wet. During the summer they are wet. Even when it isn't raining or snowing they're wet. What could cause this?

First off, have you tried drying them out? Do you have a sunroof? If not, my guess would be door weather stripping or a leaky windshield.

Check for a leak in the rear wheel well. It's known to rust through.

Re: 1997 Bonneville Carpets SOAKED!!!!
For the 92-99 Bonnevilles, the two most likely causes of this are sunroof drains (if equipped) and shrunken door seals. I've only seen one of this generation have a problem with the windshield seal.
Remove both driver's side door seals from the car and soak them in the bathtub in hot water to make them soft and pliable. Take them back out to the car one at a time and re-install them, pressing HARD to get them to conform into the tight inside corners of the door openings. Because of the shrinking, they'll leave a small gap in the bottom middle, which will not cause problems.
See if that solves your problem. And let us know if you have a sunroof.

I do have a sunroof. it had a leak but I had an OEM replacement still in the original packaging in the trunk just in case. I replaced the original sunroof back in july and it no longer leaks. It might be the door seals.

Re: 1997 Bonneville Carpets SOAKED!!!!
Keep in mind, the sunroof is designed to leak and not cause issues. There are 4 drains to keep the car clean. Two in the front corners, two in the back (buried in the roof). If the drains get plugged up or disconnected inside the A or C pillars, it will run water down inside. Pull your A and C pillars on the side that gets wet and look up in the holes under the roof liner to see if they're hooked up. If they are, open the sunroof and pour a pitcher of water in the 'rain gutter' channel around the opening and watch for drips from where the drain tubes meet the roof.
Somewhere around here I have a bunch of pics of my door seals......in the meantime:

Re: 1997 Bonneville Carpets SOAKED!!!!
Have you checked the seal around the hvac air inlet in the cowl under the wipers? Mine was bad and was leaking into the drivers side foot well. The water would work its way down by the gas pedal. Check the foam padding under the rubber behind the gas pedal/brake pedal along the firewall. Too fix I had to pull the wipers off and the plastic cowl vent to get to the inlet. Not fun but it was the source of one of my leaks.

This. My LeSabre had a leak here too. If you can't find a leak in any of the other common areas you'll probably find it here.Bing wrote:Have you checked the hvac air inlet in the cowl under the wipers? Re: 1997 Bonneville Carpets SOAKED!!!! *UPDATE*
I found the cause for my soaked floor during a rainy day. Both my front sunroof drain plugs were cracked beyong repair. How do i go replacing these? What is the part number (if applicable)?

Re: 1997 Bonneville Carpets SOAKED!!!!
When are they wet? Also in the day time in the summer, when it's not raining?? To be wet they need some kind of liquid ... ! If not from the sky, we have a couple of liquid sources in the car: washer and radiator. Then there can be a number of liquid sources in the "nature". Do you own a cat? Do you leave you car door open, or any other access into the car? In that case the reason for wet mat is pretty obvious ... especially if the cat is getting old ...PLAGUE PHANTOM wrote:Even when it isn't raining or snowing they're wet.

That was a typo on my part. My floors were only wet during rain or snow or when any sort of fluid made its way to my sunroof

Re: 1997 Bonneville Carpets SOAKED!!!!
UPDATE...it seems that only my driver side front floorboard and my passenger rear floor board are the ones getting an inch of standing water in them. Driver side looks like it is coming ffrom the corner behind the e-brake. I was told that that sunroof drain channel pops out of the lower part and it allows the water to poor in. I cannot pinpoint the cause for the leak in the rear floorboard

Re: 1997 Bonneville Carpets SOAKED!!!!
Your gonna have your hands full... But if the carpet is wet in the front the water will make its way back to the rear of the car very easily...
For the rear check the door seals... Thats #1, after you get the interior out to dry...
For the leak at the parking brake area.... Did you discover this leak before or after the sunroof drain? or is this a separate leak?
If the leak is in the middle of the car, then I would say HVAC Inlet/ Cowl
If the leak is dead on for the parking brake location then I will say seem sealer issue under the hood hinge, unless you have a windshield sealing issue...

Also pop the trunk and check the spare tire well for standing water...i had both tail lights leaking into the trunk which wicked the water to the spare tire well. These cars have pretty well documented leak zones...check em all!

I have tried the soaking of the seals and this did not work.
Does anyone know where I could get replacement seals for Door and Trunk ?

Re: 1997 Bonneville Carpets SOAKED!!!!
Just giving everyone an update. THe rear floorboard was due to a rusted through wheel well. Front sounds like the Sunroof drain canal came loose. Trunk has 2 inches of standing water whic i think the rusted wheel well is also the cause of along with the trunk lights allowing water to come in

Re: 1997 Bonneville Carpets SOAKED!!!!
It is not the sunroof- Water is coming from the front drivers and passenger side door seals.
I tried soaking them in hotwater and this did very litter. Does anyone know where I can get the Door and Trunk seals to replace or will I have to cut to fit ?

Did you follow the write-up exactly? Soak them in hot water, then starting at the bottom, take one end and work it in all the way around, good and tight, leaving a gap at the bottom, and fill the gap in with a section cut from a junkyard weatherstrip.

Re: 1997 Bonneville Carpets SOAKED!!!!
Update....front drivers side ended up being a door seal. Rear paasenger floor and traunk are caused by a completely rusted out inner wheel well. Trunk side has 2 penny sized rust holes allowing water to enter. The passenger side floorboard has 2 dime sized holes located right behind the back seat on the wheel well. How much would it cost to repair the wheel well?
