Thanks John.

I have my appointment with the Claims Clerk tomorrow at 9:30 am for my interview and to present her with all my documentation.

I have organized all the receipts.
I have pics of all the before and after pics as well as my rebuild pics.
I have pics of the accident scene with pics detailing how it happened.
I have pics of the damage.
I have a chronicled list of everything I've done to it over the last 4 months.
I have the police report and ownership papers.
I have examples of similar Jeeps for sale asking $4,000.

I plan to only give them copies of the receipts and hold the originals just in case I have to take them to court over it.

Am I missing anything?

One potential problem after speaking to the "nice" lady on the phone was she says she needs to interview the driver, Victor, in person to get his statement.
Victor is gone back to Victoria and won't be home until at soonest the end of April. What a crock of shoot!

The actual appraisal adjuster comes over from Courtenay on the Island next Wednesday.

They may be able to conduct the interview for Victor in Victoria if they have an office there and then Victoria could fax it to your office. (depends on who you are with).

Seems like you have all your ducks in a row Paul.
The problem is that no matter how much money you spend on a vehicle (mods work maintenece etc) you will NEVER be able to get your money out of it when it comes time to sell.
The bullet is an excellent example.

What do you think you could sell it for?
How much have you spent on it?

Those are going to be two very different numbers and my bet is that insurance is going to pick the cheaper of the two options.

But what do i know im only 19!
Fight em tooth and nail!

On a side note where is Victor going to college?

That's the exact load of craap the agent told me on the phone and most young and inexperienced people might believe that.

The Bullet is no example as I am not selling it and to me is still has a value of $20 K even though a normal one of that year goes for half that amount.

I figure with the documentation I have I can sell the Jeep for $4,000.
I've spent $6,000 on it.

They will want to give me $2,000 for it max (my educated guess)

I can take $2,000 of parts off of it right now and it would still be able to drive away ( I have the original wheels and tires to pop back on)......with a broken windshield and banged up sheet metal.

You can bet I'll be fighting this tooth and nail.

Victor will be attending Camosun College and bridging back into Victoria University Engineering next September.

For both my accidents the interviews were over the phone. They were recorded, and I had to say a disclaimer that I knew and was OK with it, etc.

My son has a cell phone with texting privaleges only. Maybe they can arrange to call him at the college or he can go into the ICBC office in the town he's in.

Anyways......should I give them all the receipts and photos now or wait until after the appraiser has done his job next week? :dontknow:

Paul, I had to deal directly with the appraiser on my claim. He seems to be the one who has the final say. Save everything and give it to him, at least that way it won't get lost in the system.

The appraiser is coming here next Wednesday. He's only here for half a day and has to visit the yard and take pics then he has many 15 minute interviews booked so he only has time to pick up the copies of receipts and other info I dropped off today.

The local adjuster took my statement but needs one from the driver who is now gone back to school hundreds of miles away!
Final decision cannot be made until my son can get into an ICBC office to file a statement.

I won't find out anything until Jan.10 at earliest. #-o

The woman told me they don't use any book values, just market values for a similar vehicle and take the recent work with receipts into account when making a decision.

I know they will try to prove negligence in order to void the claim but as far as I can tell everything is legit so if they try to pull that garbage they can talk to my lawyer.

Paul

so sorry for the accident. Glad your son is ok. Have you heard from the insurance company yet?

Doesnt compare(yours is worse) but our son hit a tree in our yard, ran into the back of a lady (he told the cops his dad was going to kill him - to please be at the house at 6 when Dad got home that nite) and then backed his 98 Ford Ranger into his Dads Ram 3500 dooley (at the time the truck was 1 year old). - all withing 6 months!! Our insurance refused to pay because it was one of our vehicles hitting another of our vehicles. The point is - that son is now 23, married, has 2 kids and a mortgage payment - he has slowed down somewhat on speeding, and is making it. All that happened when he was 16 - looking back it does not seem as bad as it did at the time. But believe me looking at the flare hanging over the tires on the truck - that was a sad day. But we didnt have any sweat equity in it like you do. Fibreglas is repairable - though costly! We ended up paying half but made him get a job and pay for his part. But he was 16 and not going to college like your son. Without a job my stepson would have just had more time for chasing girls. He had perfumeitis real bad - had to have the wheels to impress the girls!!

That Jeep was beautiful - what year is it? Keep us posted on what happens. Is it out of impound?

Arrrrgh!! It gets worse!

We just stopped by the impound lot which is closed today for the New Years day holiday.
First thing I notice is both drivers side doors wide open. :eek2:
The gate was locked so I immediately called the lot's emergency number and they came down to open the gate for me. I was madder than hell.......still am.

As soon as I got to the Jeep to close the doors I noticed that the new stereo CD player face plate is missing and the dash was damaged by someone attempting to steal the entire unit. :bluetwitch:

I filed another insurance claim just now. Although I was glad I took out a storage insurance policy on it...it has a $300 deductible.
The insurance adjuster hasn't even looked at it yet for the first claim!!

It could have happened anytime between Friday night and Monday morning. I arrived to check at 11:30 am. The lot was closed all weekend.

It just surprised me that they only took the faceplate and left the doors open. I could see they tried to pull off the plastic dash faceplate cover but stopped when it became apparant they would need to find the screws and didn't even break it off, just pulled one corner free.

It was a good Pioneer deck with a USB and IPod jack only a couple months old.

It's gonna make me all that much more resolved to get at least $2,000 for the Jeep plus $4,000 for all the recent receipts ($5,200 worth) !!

doesnt the impound lot bear any responsibility? I mean for the deductible? That is nuts.

Odd though we just replaced my daughters stereo - it has an ipod attachment- cant remember if it has usb though.

I am just shocked that there is crime in Canada. I watched Canadian Bacon - I didnt think you guys had crime!! ;) Every Canadian I met in Toronto was nice - Montreal, not so much

Sorry to hear about that -

I'm sure I'll have to sue them for the deductible.

I have before and after pictures and I also took pictures of the open doors.

If the law fails me on this one I will lose what little respect I have for the law now.

LOL good one Sheila.....no crime in Canada............although you don't have to worry about someone carrying a .45 in their glovebox.
Mostly it's just delinquent kids looking for pot money.

Do you have handguns in Canada? I know Britain doesn't. Mine is not in the glovebox and it is a .38 special bodyguard (hammerless). I cant carry it in my purse because I work in a courthouse and have to pass thru security. :-$ Otherwise ...

We have had 2 instances in counties near me where the would-be victims have fought back, and the defendant died. One of them was one of our repeat offenders where I work. Sad that these kids are throwing their lives away by committing repeat offenses. Right now, we have 5 #s of pot taken in a traffic stop in our evidence storage area - 5 lbs is a lot of pot!! More than I have ever seen, and I smell it every time I open the storage cabinet. And there is no truth to the rumor that I go there twice a day!!

Hope you dont have to sue for the deductible.

BTW, Canadian Bacon is one of my favorite movies!

Time to look for that model of faceplate on ebay from a seller nearby and also check the local CL. I'm guessing you'll find a local seller of faceplates near you, especially on ebay, but I've been finding a lot of face plate sellers on the local CL so odds may be in your favor of finding the culprit, just might be a little tough proving it.

My battle with ICBC insurance is just beginning to get interesting.

The adjuster phoned today and said the appraiser valued the 89 Jeep at $1,200. :eek2:
I said yes that's about what I paid for it but then I spent $6,000 fixing it up not including my time/labour.

He went on to say that they usually only give 5% back for receipts. :bsflag:

Then he said I should drop the second claim for the vandalized stereo because the $300 deductible is about the same as the payout for the stereo and if I claimed it I would have to pay the $300 for that claim plus another $300 deductible for the first accident claim. :bluetwitch: WHAAAAAAT!!!!
:bsflag: I told him that my entire build is documented on Pontiac Bonneville Club and that I have all the receipts and photos.

As soon as I mentioned the L word (lawyer) he says he would try and go to bat for me and discuss it with his supervisor and get back to me tomorrow!!

What a load of crap! Reminds me of a used car salesman.......which is probably where he came from!

They're worse than used car salesmen Paul. If a Used Car Salesman pushes you too far, you go find another car. The adjuster has you on his leash, and you gotta bite back to get a fair settlement.

Re: What I got for Christmas :(

I remember fighting when my old 93 got smashed up.
Originally they wanted to give me 3800 dollars, but I got 6000. I had all my reciepts from even a year before the accident, plus my original purchase value of 5000 dollars. I fought every day, calling the claims adjuster every day, and eventually he got sick of hearing from me. The guy who hit me was with ICBC as well.
No fun, took about 6 months for re-embursment.
