"Alternate shift mode"
Dumb question. This "adaptive shift mode"...... I aquired an 01 that had been sitting for a year. Hit in the front.... I did the repairs. Everything seemed fine... Well one time I finally decide to drop the hammer on the expressway and see what she has. Every time I take off no matter what kind of throttle I give it, it will slam in the gear shifts.... Shut it off, and go into a store for a few minutes. Came back out and its totally fine. Drop the hammer again and yep problem comes back.... Trans fluid is slightly dirty but not burnt by any means... I'm taking it to a trans shop tomorrow. I'm fairly mechanically inclined (had an aod-e apart and performed a repair without a problem if that is of any relavence). This seems to be a common thing going on in the realm of 4t60e transmissions. I'm basically asking fr a few pointers if someone is willing to throw some ideas my way. It would be very much appreciated.

Re: "Alternate shift mode"
Pointer 1: You have a 4T65e, not a 4T60. Pointer 2: A good trans shop will do a line pressure test vs. pressure control solenoid amp command. This test will tell if the solenoid is changing the pressure as commanded by the PCM. It's not always a 100% accurate test, as there could be an internal seal or gasket leaking the pressure off, or even a worn pump. These kind of leaks are not visible because they are leaking fluid pressure inside the transmission. But generally it is a very good indication of the solenoids ability to do what the computer tells it to. An ohm test on the solenoid is also a good thing to check before tear-down. This test can be done at the electrical connector on the transmission, also known as the "world connector", because it's round. I know it sounds silly, but thats what they call it. The amp vs pressure test can only be done with a high end scan tool such as the Tech2 GM scan tool (usually only the dealerships have this tool).

1fastcat::
Thank you for the heads up! I'm looking at the schematic right now. Makes sense.... Basically any trans shop worth their salt can check the other you stated. Should I have mentioned one of the cooler lines got slightly kinked? ::slaps forehead:: Ever so slightly though....

Re: "Alternate shift mode"
It depends on your definition of the word "slightly". A small kink will not cause problems, but small to you may be different than it is to me. Can you post a picture of the affected area? You say "ever so slightly" so I'm guessing your OK, but....
Edit: Oh, my car is all stock, so 1fastcat doesn't really fit me

Re: "Alternate shift mode"
update. One trans shop said "blah blah blah could PROBABLY replace the accumulator blah blah time for rebuild"
another trans shop says "its leaking down internally blah blah scoring in the front pump" or something along those lines. I mentioned a transgo shift kit, and a pcs...... They gave me the deer in the headlights stare. Looks like I'm gonna look into doing this one solo. So what is this I hear about a portion of the shift kit you just drop the pan for, and leaving the rest alone?

Re: "Alternate shift mode"
Do that. Odds are it'll fix your problem.
I'd use the Valvoline Maxlife ATF instead of Dex-VI. My transmission, which is nearly identical to yours, did not shift well on Dex-VI. It was run for 10k miles, with terrible shifting.

Re: "Alternate shift mode"
FWIW, I put the Intense shift kit in my son's Grand Prix over three years ago, due to harsh shifts and code p1811. It's still working fine without a return of the code.
*Gone, but not forgotten* - Black 2000 SSEi, HIR Headlights, Angel Eyes fogs, 3rd brake light overlay, hi-flo cat, 180 degree thermostat, HS 1.9 rockers, LSx yellow springs, Intense FWI, PCM, shift kit, push rods, and 3.4 Pulley. ZZP Power Log.

Re: "Alternate shift mode"
Great info!! Thanks folks. I'm getting the parts next week, and I'll do it on a weekend. Mine doesn't "delay" 1-2 shift enough to even send a p1811 code yet. So if I drop the pan and don't see gobs of SAND aka:what's left of my clutches. I'll proceed, and advise as necessary.

Re: "Alternate shift mode"
Did the shift kit. No sweat. Wasn't too hard at all. It's 90% better. I only have a slight delay 1-2 shift under FULL THROTTLE. So guess what at 165k I'm not going to be taking off full throttle often untill I have money to go through the trans. Thanks for the help folks!!!

Re: "Alternate shift mode"
I would. Just for good measure. I rode in a lower mileage 05 non s'charged. The transgo shift kit is a major improvement in shift feel over OEM. If mine had low miles I would have been dropping the cradle and doing the entire shift kit.

Re: "Alternate shift mode"
Do it. It can only help. I've had the kit in mine for just under 20k miles with zero issues.
