Broke lower water fitting by waterpump installing tensioner?

Post by Bleearg »

I don't even know what to call it? Waterpump housing? Where will I find one?
I'm so frustrated. I can't even think.

Perhaps if you could post a picture of the effected area, or maybe a schematic and a little more detailed explanation, we could better assist you.

Sounds like the timing cover.

You could probably get one for cheap off here or clubgp.

Usually its the old tensioner that breaks off inside the timing cover.

Thanks!
I was seriously loosing my shiznit last night.
After waiting 2 days for a new alternator (original going out noisy bearings) I install it and realize the tensioner pulley is bad too. I broke the tensioner pulley bolt becuse I didn't know it was reverse threaded. Get new tensioner assembly. Followed the instructions being careful about the fragile plactic elbow. No mention of the bottom one I line up the bolts and start them by hand. Put everything back together and open the radiator to top it off and hear coolant running out on floor. I figure it is one of the heater core lines. So I grab the flashlight and open it again and see it is coming from down there. Thinking I left off that extra heater core side O ring that came with the tensioner, I tear it all down again to find the cast piece of crap broken. :banghead:

Boy that sucks. If you have to take the front apart anyway, maybe you should
change some other parts like the crank sensor or harmonic balancer if
they are original. I don't envy you.

I hadn't thought about the sensor. I plan on doing the water pump and timing gears and chain since they are off anyway
Going to replace the leaking compressor too which is why this has been more or less my winter car. Looks like my air will be ready for this spring.

Make sure to replace the magnet in the cam gear while your in there. The only way to get to it is by removing the timing chain cover. You don't want to do this job twice, it isn't much fun :(
