Dual Exhaust
OK I'm sure this had been asked before but since I didn't find it here goes again.
I'd like to put duals on my SE but not sure what kind and what fits best.

Re: Dual Exhaust
You could get a factory unit off an SSEi or SLE. Should fit perfect minus the fact that you dont have dual cutouts in your rear bumper cover.

Re: Dual Exhaust
Why does everyone get on about bumper cutouts? Plenty of cars don't run cutouts for tips, you just stick it out below the bumper? The SE bumper on 2000+ has a slight bend on each side that's right above where a tip would go anyways...
Besides, looks great to me

If you're going to do it and want some noise as well, new mufflers will help, but wont really add HP.

Re: Dual Exhaust
Your topic title conflicts with your post.
Dual exhaust is separate pipes all the way back for each side of the engine. Difficult and somewhat pointless on a FWD car.
Dual outlets will buy you nothing.
On the Bonnevilles of various generations that had dual outlets, the exhaust is 2.5" diameter all the way back to the muffler. From there, the earlier models (not sure about the 2k) drop down to dual 2.25's.
The surface area (opening of a 2.5" pipe is 4.9".
The dual 2.25's combined are 3.9 x 2 = worthless because you can't get something for nothing.
So are you interested in true dual exhaust, or just dual outlets?
If it's dual outlets, are you expecting a performance gain, or is this cosmetic?

Re: Dual Exhaust
My mistake. I meant dual tips. But if there is no benefit to changing it except for a different sound then not worth the time or effort.

Re: Dual Exhaust
I was getting at a fitment issue if he used a unit of an SSEi/SLE. Like where the tips sit they might just rub on the bumper cover without the actual cutouts. IDK. I was just throwing it out as a caution.BonneMe wrote:Why does everyone get on about bumper cutouts? Plenty of cars don't run cutouts for tips, you just stick it out below the bumper? Because they will scrape on the ground if going up steep inclines. Why does everyone get on about bumper cutouts? Plenty of cars don't run cutouts for tips, you just stick it out below the bumper? Mine do sometimes even with the bumper cutouts.
Duals are purely cosmetic in his case. He'd be better off putting the money into new brake rotors.

Re: Dual Exhaust
Stock SE tips don't scrape, why would adding a second do that? The lower edge of the bumper is just higher up.2000Silverbullet wrote:Because they will scrape on the ground if going up steep inclines. Why does everyone get on about bumper cutouts? Re: Dual Exhaust
SE tail pipes don't scrape, but SLE & SSEI's do. & I belive they sit lower, so the SE bumper cover won't be an problem.

I was thinking about doing the same thing but purely for cosmetic reasons.
