HVAC Auto Climate Moodiness

Post by silverws6ta »

Guys.. looking for some suggestions -- I'll have access to a Tech2 tomorrow -- but here is the current scenario:

1) HVAC on AUTO And Starting Car Cold – Blower Will Not Engage after Car Reaches Min Operating Temp (I’m sure it goes by Closed Loop) To Engage Heat.
2)Temp to 90 Both Driver/Passenger – System Calls for Heat to be on the floor, one damper door closes, but still won’t come out at floor (or anywhere else)
3)Try to Shut off HVAC by pressing ‘Passenger’ climate control knob – no response.
4)Defrost – Won’t Work – Outside Air/Recirculation – Won’t Engage those Actuators.
5)Press ‘OFF’ on Drivers knob, then press ‘AUTO’ the fan will then go up to speed.. at least out the dash vents – so its not totally hosed.

Do I have a hosed HVAC module -- or do I need to check elsewhere.

Definitely check it with the Tech2. I am curious if one of the temp sensors is throwing a tantrum. Tech2 should flush the issue out though.

Using Tech2 to 'Command' the module to move the 'Defrost/Heat/Vent Actuator' sat at a big fat '0' -- while the actual changed from a nonresponsive value of '255' -- Other functions (Driver/Passenger Mixer Doors, Outside/Recirculation) all worked -- HVAC module is flakey -- Found one on eBay for $50 bucks and will swap out once it gets here Friday/Saturday.

You are aware that the 04+ use black buttons, compared to the gray buttons you have now, correct?

May have been a mis-listing by the seller.. I confirmed GM P/N 09391122 with the one listed in the auction (And confirmed it has GRAY buttons) -- I was thinking that 2005 GXP/SLE were specifically black??

Must have been an incorrect listing.. I verified with GMPartsDirect as well for the P/N -- there is no other SPID for an 00 model than this one.. I was OCD about any scratched/worn buttons.. But more importantly, I need some HEAT on the floor and DEFROST!!

Replaced the HVAC Control Module -- It responded with the same symptoms as the original so put it back.. What other module controls climate (or passes through via Class II)

I think I need to start looking there.. Replaced with a brand new battery yesterday (original was getting weak) -- no other electrical anomolies going on with it other than the symptoms listed above.

Thanks!

I still haven't been able to resolve this issue -- still having the same symptoms - plus a coupe of others I noticed

1) When restarting the car the blower motor does not start until you press the 'FAN' button, the 'mode' button (thought this was limited to the winter time, but no)
2) Pressing the left side drivers control adjustment for 'Off' command only responds on it. Pressing passenger side still does nothing
3) Defrost even though commanded - will not go to windshield
4) Floor commanded - will not go to the floor
5) Headlights do not come on when shifting from 'P' to a gear.

Most of this is just annoyance. I just cut it off before I get out of the car and turn it back on when i get in since the blower won't start until I press something. Very strange -- I believe its definitely one of the modules listed above.

Since there was already a fair bit of discussion and info here, I decided to resurrect this thread. My 2000SSEi climate control unit is acting up on occasion. It sometimes displays 3 dashes on the screen, and can't figure out if it should put on AC, or heat, or fan speed up and down. When the 3 dashes show up, nothing responds, and fan is on high.\

Anyone have ideas on fixing this problem?

On a warm restart my auto climate control is blank until I put the car in gear. If I wait too long to shift out of park, the fan comes on full blast and the traction control turns off and will not come back on until you turn off the ignition and restart. Could the IPM be causing this issue?
