When I'm cruising on the highway randomly the Service Engine Soon light will come on and as soon as it does the engine starts bucking and jerking. Its very violent. The only way i've found to get it back to normal is to get about 5mph over what i was originally doing, or, putting rpms around 4k and as the engine slows back down to cruising speed the light goes off and the engine purrs as smoothe as ever.

its not showing any codes. the CEL turns off and the scanners here aren't reading any codes.

Did the paperclip trick give you anything? Do any of the gauges do anything out of the norm when it's happening?

If it's a 93, I believe it will not hold history codes. Pre-OBD2. You will need to retrieve codes before shutting it down.

My 92 holds codes. You can shut down, turn the key to on, and pull codes. I just don't remember if the paper clip will tell you every code set since the last clear (which, I think it does, but not sure), or just the current ones. I do know it will show a momentary TPS LOW code, for instance, after a shut down and key on. That's the last code I pulled via paper clip before I got a scantool.

OBD1 does hold history codes, renchjeep. But it requires a scantool to retrieve them. The paperclip trick will only report current codes.

Sounds a bit like what happened when one of the ignition coils went bad on my '97 Cadillac last year. I replaced them and she's been purring like a kitten ever since. Too bad she's leaking oil like a sieve, though. Then again, that's why I'm now driving a Bonneville.

sorry computer was down for a week. i did find a proper code reader and i got codes 12, 26, 36, and 44.
I read what they all are but dont really know what they mean exactly.
