Forever Black

Post by WhiteArrow3800 »

I saw Wellintr used this product with great looking results so I picked some up and tried it on my own. For the cowl area it worked awesome, but for the window sills I didn't see much improvement, so I'll likely still get some vinyl material and cover those.

First I did the cabin air filter cover, liked how it came out and did the rest of the cowl. Installed it and then my wiper arms looked horrible. So I removed those and painted them with some satin black I had sitting in the garage. But then the Rain-x wiper blades looked faded too! So I used the forever black on them as well (Not the actual blade that contacts the windsheild, but the structural part).

Anyway, Here's before:

Nothing anyone is likely to ever notice, but I'm diggin' the cleaner look for sure! Thanks Wellintr for posting about the Forever Black!

Here's sort of a special bonus. We have the plastic trim on mom's '03 Expedition which has become faded and splotchy. I tried the Forever Black on one of the trim panels, and it didn't do too much justice with just the two coats like I used on the cowl of the Bonnie. Dyeing the panel isn't getting rid of the splotches, just makes it darker since it's not actually covering anything up. I had to apply 4 coats of this on this to get to this point. It looks better than before, So I might be ordering another bottle of this stuff to apply all around. For just 4oz. this stuff goes a long way, it says it can go 2-3 vehicles but I don't think it'll go over 4 coats worth on the Expedition. This is still cheaper than painting them, which the dealer apparently said we can't do. They said the only way is to stain the trim panels. Here's a picture of the result:

Looks good.

I've been using SEM satin black trim paint on my plastics I've taken off of the car (namely the cowl), and on the wiper arms. Both came out GREAT.

The dealer is BSing you....take the trim off, blast them with Castrol Super Clean, scuff with 3M pad, and SEM paint. Trust me....that stuff will never come off once painted.

It's called "Forever Black". I think Amazon has the cheapest prices on it. Be aware that it is a dye, so anything else that it may get on won't come out.

Yeah, Jovan, Forever Black is the product. Runs for about $12, or that's what I got it for. I would just go ahead and get it online, I searched around at several local shops with no luck.

I kinda figured that about what the dealer told us for the Expedition trim, but meh.

And the Cougar is my dad's, I believe I've posted about it before, but it's due for an update soon I suppose. It's a '67 Cougar. Just a warmed over 289 currently under the hood. Jim got the other car right on, the '57 Chevy belongs to my Uncle, who isn't in the least bit mechanically inclined. Needs some work to run and operate properly but will look amazing once we're done and detail it. We're essentially fixing it so he can give it to his oldest son out in California. Dad's gonna LG the Cougar this weekend, I'll whore it up fo you all. And I'll do the same for the '57 when we're done. [/offtopic]

Real auto paint like SEM is the ticket for the areas you can't stain. Night and day compared to "professional" auto paint available at the chain stores.

Looks good William! As you know it is all in the detail of the smaller parts. I am partial to Black Wow but your results look outstanding at 1/2 the cost. :beerchug:

Very nice!!!! This stuff really isnt made for the door trim pieces and it will only work if you sand off the clear coat layer first so it can soak it in to the plastic, other wise it doesent cover it just pools up and bloches, that is what i learned thru my expieriences. Booze, the cowl looks awsome thanks for sharing, I was looking forward to these pics!
