Re: gas gauge
During the day when it is really hot the needle goes all over the gauge. In the evening after it has cooled down the needle is steady
as can be and reads correctly.

Re: gas gauge
My 2000 SLE does the same thing -- some days it works perfectly, and others it just says "FULL" 90% of the time. I use my trip odometer to tell when to fill up (mileage over 300 = time to get gas) because I can't trust my gas gauge. I have not determined if it gets better or worse on hot/humid days. Whether it does or not, the cause of the problem is well-known here, and there is a solution posted in the TechInfo section. Rather than repeat everything here, I'll just state that it has to do with some delicate metal fingers getting worn out on top of the gas tank. You can access this area through a little door in the trunk and replace the fingers with a new part, which will solve the problem. I have not done it yet myself, but many folks here have and the solution is well-proven.
If you do some searches here in this forum, you can read all about it (that's how I learned).

Re: gas gauge
yep,on hot days when i leave my windows up the gauge will stick in certain plaes, sometimes it wont move at all or it will read half tank when i know its full or it will get stuck when i shut the car off so when i restart it will do the sweep and go so far that it hits the outer rim on the speedo.Once the dash cools off it works fine

Re: gas gauge
the owner's manual says this is normal movement. one time i thought i had half a tank and then seconds later, it was dead on E. when i fill mine up, it stays on F for the first 100 miles and then starts moving around 110-120 miles of driving.

Re: gas gauge
The 92-99's gas gauge is different from the 00's gauge. Ours needs the whole tank to be dropped for the sender replacement. Not too hard with enough tools and cursing.
