ticking sound...sounds like a lifter or exhaust?!?!

Post by 03bonssei »

Ok guys, I have had my 03 Bonneville for less then 3months now. I got it with 70,000 miles on it and it had a rod knock as soon as I moved to SC. I searched and searched and found an engine with 18,000 miles. I had a shop put the engine in and now that I have it back I have this ticking issue. I have no loss of power and it is not the Supercharger. Is it possible that this is an exhaust issue? I haven't even had the car back long enough for it to get to operating temp. I just want to know if the tick is common? I am pretty mechanically inclined so I know that if a lifter is bad I should have a loss of some power or at least a miss? Nothing like that???? :bhuh: :bhuh: #-o

If the engine you put it had been sitting a while, a lifter tick is possible. If you let it run for a longer amount of time, it might go away.

Ok...I had a service engine light (upstream O2). I replaced it and the car seems to be a bit quieter! The tick is a bit quieter and is only noticable in my garage or in a drive-thru??? It has to be able to bounce the sound off of something. Any ideas now? Next on the list is my squeal? I believe it is the tensioner? I thought the sound was coming from it so I pushed a flatblade on it while the car was running and the squeal got louder? How much are the tensioners? Also, what is normal oil pressure? Mine says 120? I also found a vacuum leak while inspecting the work that the shop did....Can someone post a pic of the vacuum lines for me?

As asked before, did the motor sit awhile before being installed? Was it stored properly before installation? Could you take a video from under the hood with the engine running so we can hear the tick?

You need to figure out if it is the pulley or the tensioner. Take the SC belt off and run the car and if the noise is still there, then it is in the accessory belt path. If it goes away, then it is the SC. The pulleys can be purchased fairly cheap at any parts store.

Oil pressure sender threaded into the oil filter adapter.

I am at work and don't have access to my FSM right now, but where did you find a leak and if you could get a picture it would help. Here is a thread where they were posted: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=19053

Just a little friendly heads up, there is no need for an attitude. Noone gets paid to do this and with a holiday around the corner and summer here, many people have other things going on.

Easy now, don't make assumptions as to what my mood was when I wrote that.... :booty: The holiday weekend is this weekend, not when I posted this. I was simply stating that I thought it was funny that only one guy knew how to respond. To answer the question, I have no clue if the engine was sitting but I must presume it was. I now have driven it quite a bit and put 100 miles on the car... still the same. It has that slight ticking sound? I boggles my mind really. It sounds like it is exhaust but I can't tell. I would post a video but I saw the exact ticking sound in another video on here and it still has not been figured out. Heck, I don't even know how to post pictures yet :sad5: :sad5:
