SOMEONE CREAMED MY CAR! MY GOD THINGS COULDN'T GET WORSE!

Post by Melissa »

So she was suppose to go in today for a paint job from the hail storm we had here a couple weeks ago. They called me Friday to tell me my insurance approved it. Well, some moron who was driving in front of me Saturday night pulls onto a side street and as I was coming up he totally didn't pay attention to traffic and whipped right out in front of me. The pictures tell the story. I was DEFINITELY NOT a happy camper. I was so upset/ pissed when I was the damage my friend had to grab me and pull me back because I was going for the kid. Now people know just how anal I am over my car. This isn't an ownership it's a relationship I have with her. Needless to say, she's at the body shop today but has to wait for the appraiser from my insurance company to come by assess the damage since some of where I was hit was also where they were refinishing the body and paint. The damage will now be on the 2nd claim for my insurance company to go after his. I was witty and told the body shop I'm hearing a clunking noise in the front end now. I knew I needed struts and mounts and now I'm planning on getting it out of the deal. He hit me I'm taking everything I can from his insurance co. The body shop is good to me! On a positive note, they didn't give me some 4 banger as a loaner car. they let me get my paws on a Supercharged Grand Prix!! My car is in better shape mechanically but this one gets up and goes and it's kinda fun experiencing something else. I popped the hood bc I didn't see the badge on the side of the car. You could tell it had been removed. I say the word SUPERCHARGED and almost wet myself!

I know I probably sound crazy saying I went after the kid, but this was my first accident for one, he was reckless and careless secondly and he stood there as if it wasn't a big deal! Not cool in my book. It wasn't flying with me.

Good to hear your not physically hurt.

I don't know if there are any GXP headlights @ salvage yards near you, but if you could get GXP headlights they'd really make your car look sinister and have better lighting if they have the GXP bulbs in them still.

Best of luck with the rebuild.

Sorry to hear of this. But at least everyone is ok, and she looks easily repairable. She'll be looking good as new! Good luck with the repairs.

Good luck with your repairs!

I'm sorry to hear your car was damaged. But glad to hear that no one was hurt. I know it can really upset us when something we treasure is damaged. But, sometimes when we think things couldn't get worse, it can be helpful to look at our situation from a different perspective. Were you or any of your loved ones injured? Is your health good? Do you have insurance?

While it is good to aspire to improve our lot, it can be harmful to dwell only on those who seem to be better off than we are. There will always be someone with better luck, more money, more status, better health, better abilities in some area, etc. etc. If we only look at those folks, we may begin to believe that because we have less, we are not as well off as they. This can lead to a distorted image of our own position in the world, imagining that we are suffering when, in fact, we are blessed with plenty. Did you know that: less than 8% of the people in the world own a car? less than 11% own a computer? fewer than 17% can read and write? about one-third of the people in the world are malnourished? about 80% live on less than $10 per day?

I have sometimes mused about how the average U.S. citizen today compares to even the most privileged of people who lived just 100 years ago. Humans alive today make up less than 6% of all humans who have ever lived. How many of that 94% have been able to.... travel across a continent in less than a day? Drive down a highway 70 mph in comfort and safety on their own schedule? Enjoy air conditioning on a hot day? Open a faucet to receive water pure enough to drink? Open another faucet to receive water warm enough to bathe comfortably, even in the middle of winter? Enjoy the sound of the world's finest orchestras? See any variety of entertainment at the touch of a button?

I know it is a trite expression, and it doesn't feed into Madison Avenue's idea of what will make us happy, but it really does help sometimes and can even be fun to step back and count our blessings.

While the event itself is unfortunate, I am glad for you that the timing wasn't more unfortunate, especially after the paint job. Hang in there, it will be okay.

You can just buy the HIR bulbs that come with the GXP headlight assembly for the high beams seperately and put them into a non-GXP housing. You can buy them for the low beams also. You may have to do a little custom grinding on the tabs of the bulb though, especially fitting one into the low beam socket, but they work. I converted my low beams to an HIR bulb also.

Shipping a hood from MN to MI would be a bear, and probably not worth it. If she was hit by someone else, their insurance should pay for either new parts, or the repair of the old parts to like-new condition. I would accept nothing less.

Oh, *dang*. That doesn't look good. I know everyone is on the optimistic side here, but looking at how deep the bumper cover is dished in, I'm thinking there's going to be frame damage...I hope like hell I'm wrong.

I'm glad you're OK.

I doubt it. You can see the impact bar, as the plastic tore around it. If anything you'll need a new impact bar, gonna take a lot more to damage the frame.

The impact bar WAS damaged and I'm not worrying about upgrading any headlights I'm sticking simply to what exactly is damaged and letting it all be rebuilt to normal. thanks for the offer guys but I'm definitely not about to sit and wait for parts to be shipped to me and then have to paint them and find a shop who will put parts on that weren't ordered by them. It's at the body shop, I just signed the authorization sheet for them to start the work. Parts were ordered today. It's quicker to just let them have it and have the insurance take care of it all. Insurance won't go and buy parts from random people and I don't want to take the money and do so when this shop can get them and match the paint themselves. they have a great reputation also. Might be pricey but it's definitely worth it to me to have her back to normal. On a positive note, she's getting the new bumper w a fresh paint job it needed bc it was BADLY sand blasted. It looked like it had mud sprayed all over it. I bought it like that and thought I'd have it finished at some point... well I don't have to worry about that anymore! I'm fine, didn't need to see a doctor but that kid would have if I would have gotten a hold of him! No one messes w my baby! It's like messing with a mamma bear's cub! You just don't go there!

But no frame damage? That's awesome! I figured for sure the bumper mounts were going to be mangled, and I'm never gladder to be wrong than in threads like this!

BTW, there have been more than a few times in the past eight months when I've wished I'd just gone ahead and beaten the living ish out of the moron that hit me...still waiting...

Yeah lets just hope I never run into him again. I have a permanent image of his face in my head, I won't forget! Maybe he'd like to go for a quick ride involving my baby when she's done and my tow strap and I'm not talking about pulling his vehicle around if ya catch my drift! My car wants pay back, she told me! Ugh I hate picturing what she looks like right now. Can't wait to update this thread with After shots!

Mel, it's doing you no good freaking out about this. Take a few deep breaths, go for a walk, whatever. As long as his insurance pays up, forget about this whole deal. It's not worth the stress you're putting on yourself for a little bit of payback, or whatever.

I'm far from the type of person who would actually act on whooping someone's ass. I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and it taught self defense and discipline, not how to go out and come at someone. I was very upset when the incident happened and I had a few choice words with the kid, which I had every right to do bc he was young and driving like a fool. I didn't do any name calling bc that's childish. I just kept yelling at him asking him how dumb could u be to just whip out and not even look? And said look at my car my insurance isn't gonna fix this bc it's too much damage you watch. It's being fixed w the money the insurance is paying for it to be totaled, so now I'm gonna be paying on a loan for the car still. I guess that's what I get for loving her so much. I just had to vent because it was my first accident and it was such a dumb one and the kid acted like it was an every day occurrence which got to me bad. But anyways, hoping to have her back by the end of this week at-least! I'll be perfectly content then.
