95 Ei to 97 Ei exchange.

Post by Maymybonneliveforevr »

Will a 95 SSEi stock equalizer radio be a direct fit into a 97 SSEi? I assume it will fit mounting wise but are there other issues such as electrical connection, amp, speaker connection re the 97 Ei Bose system etc?

Generally 94-99 stereos are interchangeable, and with many other GM cars.

Unfortunately in this case,
No they are not interchangeable. I tried to use the 7-band head unit from the 95 before I got a new head unit for the 97.

It hooks up with the harness and the display lights up, but it doesn't do anything other than that. IIRC someone had told me some of the pins on the harness need to be changed around to get it to work properly, but I never found out how to do it/which ones to change.

It should work. GM didn't change the pins in the radio, even back further than 94 for the main wires. The steering wheel control portion was different pre-94, but I believe that was it. I know I ran 94-99 radios in my 93 without issues.
