what are peopke's thoughts on how this would do

Post by gigolo »

car is a 98 gs with
ported 99+Tb
ported gen 3 blower
1.9 IC
port matched lim
gasket matched heads
coated pacesetter headers that are already welded
res delete with stock pping from the tank back
on 85 octane
3.8,3.6,3.5 pulley
stock weight including spare and jack but is a sunroof delete car
tuned to 20* timing at wot
but the kicker is 5280 ft elevation
walmart special tires on stock chromies
no handling mods at all

this is what will be sitting on amanda's car and she wants to have an idea what it has potential to do
also with 40+* of timing at cruise do you think it is possible to milk 33 mpg out of the car at 75-80 mph

Good luck staying at 40+ degrees of timing at 75 mph.

I'm betting about 28-29 mpg at that speed. 75 mph is far out of (at least my NA 3800's) the engine sweet spot for efficiency at about 1600 RPM or so.

3.5 is the smallest pulley you'll have with ported heads?
Ported heads and headers with no valvetrain mods? Running at 5000 ft elevation will kill you.

Are you asking what it'll run at the track? Probably not much quicker than stock heads, exhaust manifolds, and a 3.4 pulley. Very hard to say because nobody's run that odd of a combination at the track. ALLOWING more flow doesn't do a whole lot without FORCING more flow. Your valvetrain is your weak spot.

I have all the pulleys from 3.8 to 3.0 since the alt diff around here can totally destroy a dialed in tune at a set area/altitude. besides the better the flow and the bigger the pulley the cooler the charge thus getting better mpg. pulleys r stupid simple to change so it was just a question out of boredom

You're saying you want to know the MPG's, not the track times?

Like I said, 28-29 mpg at ~75 mph is my guess. I know how to drive for efficiency, and I have a hard enough time keeping the car at 40 degrees of ignition advance at ~60 mph. Doing that at 75 will be quite the challenge.

Stock cam? Maybe. Gotta be tuned well, and everything setup well for efficiency.

I'm nto sure about L67's and their gearing, but my L27's MPG would take a nosedive at 75 or higher...
