Is the head unit in a Bose system specific to Bose

This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Is the head unit in a Bose system specific to Bose

Post by Whitecrystal1 »

My 99 Bonnie has the Bose system in it but doesn't have the 7band EQ system. I have this in the 94 and want to swap it over, I know it should work but is there any difference in the head units from a Bose system to a non Bose system?

That's what I am trying to figure out since the radio does not say Bose, just the label on the dash. makes me wonder if the radio is actually a Bose, could it be that it is just the speakers and Amp that make it a Bose system?

That's how it is 00+, but I don't know how 92-99 is setup. If it's not too difficult, swap them and see what happens.

I don't think the headunit is a Bose, mine says Delphi on it. I think its just the amp thing in the truck and the speakers that are Bose. However, yes its a different headunit, perhaps it puts out a few more amps or something, I really don't know if its really all that better.

I have done this already... the bose is run off of the same head unit as the non bose.... the only difference is that the bose systems have an amplifier in the rear deck under the 6x9's

Can it be done? Yes. Will it sound good? Maybe...

My SSE had the 7-band (not stock) and Bose (stock) when I got it, and it was totally unlistenable when the bass and midrange was brought even to the middle. Every factory Bose setup I've seen does NOT have the EQ, and that's probably with good reason.
2005 GXP - White Gold Pearl, no mods...yet.
2000 SSEi - Resurrection in progress. Built L67 w/L32 fuel rail, ported heads, and cam. Camaro front brake system, GXP cluster, and much more in planning.

why not just adapt and go aftermarket? a good deck can be had for around 100-150 then you can filter and tune to your hearts content
