98 SE, new brakes and rotors 22000 miles ago. Car stops fine, no pulsation. However, when going down the road, there is a screeching coming from both front wheels that goes away as soon as you hit the brake pedal. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Brake Question
Do the pads again. They're gone for whatever reason. Check the caliper guide pins, they may be seized. New pins are $15 or so for both sides. The caliper cylinder may be stuck, too.

Re: Brake Question
I'd recomend a visual inspection before you replace anything. And you can ususally just take out, clean, and regrease the guide pins.
you know what brand / grade pads you went with. or what the general price range was on them?

Re: Brake Question
I've been told these cars had a problem with the piston in the caliper sticking after you push it back in when doing the pads, sticks open and wears the pad in no time. When I did the brakes on mine I had to replace one of the calipers cause the rubber boot was worn and it would most certainly stick open.

Re: Brake Question
Either the pads are riding the wear indicator or if you had the brakes done chances are piss poor pads were used and have hard spotted.. I think you might be on the indicators.. Inspect them..

Re: Brake Question
The caliper on the right side was sticking and caused the right pad to wear prematurely down to the wear indicator. Thanks for all the input.......

Re: Brake Question
are you sure there is not an issue with the piston or the brake hose?

Re: Brake Question
Sounds to me like Don is leaning in the same direction I am. As the black flex lines clamped to the struts age, they can cause the pistons to not fully retract. They're inexpensive and easy to change. You'll have to bleed again though.
