HELP ASAP please!! =(

Post by Melissa »

I was trying to figure out what was causing my car to sputter while im driving and really bad in reverse. Sometimes it shuts it off. I have a picture of the hose that connects near the mass airflow sensor. The opposite end has a curves foam like connection and it was cracked.
I have a picture of it below and need to know how much this part is and where I can possibly get it... Im trying to fix it ASAP I need my car tonight dang it... perfect timing.

The only place that you will get that exactly like that is at the dealer...and they may have to order it. The cost? That I don't know.

You could head to Autozone, or Advance and pick up some vacuum hose, and plastic fittings and make your own. You'll likely end up with right angles, instead of a smooth arc.

Any estimate on how much all of those pieces might be together? Talking to my dad via text bc he's at work.

duct tape is not an option. the foam arc is in 3 pieces as it is.

When did you get another Bonne? You're holding out on me lol

Anyways, take your pieces and go to the local auto parts store and show them and just replace it with a rubber vaccum line for about 1.39 per foot.

Actually went to an auto store last night w a couple of my guy friends who scooped me up. The guy there had a scrap piece of hose that worked perfectly!!! $0 total! I can afford that any day! Problem isn't fixed tho. I mean that hose is good now but im pretty sure the symptoms im dealing w right now all point to the mass air flow sensor. It was just replaced back in September but im curious, maybe something was damaged in the process bc i read online that The mass air flow sensor hot wire sensing element and housing are calibrated as a unit and must be serviced as a complete assembly. I'm not 100% sure myself what all of that means but reading on this site it sounds like maybe it could have something to do with the wires and voltages also. I'm so not all high tech when it comes to cars but its all pointing to that sensor or something around it. My car is sputtering when im driving, even with it set on cruise... acceleration and when I put it in reverse while its acting up it jerks backward then shuts off on me. Sitting w it in park & hitting the gas it sputters and will also shut itself off.

Take a spray bottle and spray a mist around the spark plugs, and look for arcing at idle. It might help if it's dark. This sounds fairly similar to what our Grand Am was doing when one of the plug wires was shorting through the insulation.

MY plugs are new, put in last September... are you saying one could be loose? Excuse me for being a girl not knowing as much as some of you guys but what's arcing... so I know exactly what I'm looking for?

Could be, but the wires could be bad. Were they replaced too, or are they older? The arcing would be from a bad wire.
Bye Bye:

No I only did plugs... I suggested wires as being the issue yesterday when my dad myself & my uncle were trying to get it to act up again... which of course didn't happen because we wanted it to.

I meant the insulation on the plug wires could be bad, causing the charge to jump through the insulation to something outside the engine instead of through the spark plugs. The arcing would be sparking.

You might try moving the wires around and respraying, also. And not that I recommend it, but the last time I had this problem, I found it with my ear by trying to listen close to a weird ticking noise... that was a bit of a shocker. Literally.
