It's probably the correct rod but is bent.

What I ment was, I would have thought you would have checked piston to deck height when it was apart, after I had suggested a possible bent rod. i would have NEVER expected the rod to be incorrect, i had the rod/piston out and it was fine.
oh well, i should be up and running soon.
