Check Your Tires!!

Post by 00Beast »

Just a friendly reminder that with cold weather comes lower tires, due to the air contracting in the tires. Every 10 degree drop equals about 1 psi. Tires in our Suburban were about 5 psi low each, and I haven't checked miy car's yet (will in a few). Just because your car has TPMS (00+ SLE, SSEi, GXP) just means it compares all 4 tires. If they all drop the same, it won't go off. Not having tires at proper pressure can hurt mileage and cause irregular wear. Check your door tag for the proper pressure.

EDIT: Just checked the tires in my car, they were all at 28 psi, and I had them at 34 psi a month ago, when it was 40-50 degrees outside. Goes to show how much they can lose.

Yep! Mine lost 4 psi since I last checked them and the air temps were warmer. But when I arrive in Florida I'm sure I'll gain a few pounds.

Yeah I actually got the warning this morning on my way to work. They didn't look too low when I got out though. I'll fill them tomorrow morning.

Thank you Ed, something not everyone knows and should be aware of...it can cost you a few MPG if you don't keep proper pressure and with prices these days, air is free gas is not....inflate people!

As ryan was getting to, Going by how a tire looks is a bad idea.

My winter tires were under 20psi upfront once the first cold snap hit.

Thanks Ed, I checked my tires...I've got probably less than 1% tread left and two industrial sized staples and a nail. :)
Also have flat spots on both rears...that's a separate issue...they'll be replaced soon.

But seriously they were also all under by about 5psi each.
