Chrome Intakes

I have been thinking about getting an intake. I have looked at a few different ones. I was wondering if anybody knows much about a company called chrome intakes. I saw them on ebay for a low price. Not in a hurry to get an intake just looking. Any recommendations. I also prefer not to spend a fortune. Thanks for any help that is given.

DO NOT GET THOSE!!!! They are awful. They have a cheap filter, along with the intake sucking in hot air from the engine bay.

get one of these. tried and true.

The price is too good to be true. They're a poor design, and not worth it. Get the FWI from Intense. You'll be happy you did.

On a 95-99 you can do the "poor man's intake" where you gut the airbox (possible on a 2k2?), drop in a high-flow filter, then seal the opening between the airbox front and the frame.

Is that doable on a 2002?

You can gut the airbox, but it's better to just get the FWI than to spend the $60 on a drop-in filter.

The chrome intakes work well on some cars, but not Bonnevilles. As long as there is a K&N filter on the end. The way they designed it for the Bonnevilles, as others said, will just draw in hot engine air. I have one on my truck with a good quality K&N cone filter on it that works very well. The tube is longer and goes down lower in my 4.3's engine bay away from the heat. Pretty much the same configuration as the K&N name brand intake uses, just with their pipe. I'm happy with it, and it cost about $110.

I've had one of the chrome intakes, actually a supposedly good one Spectre designs I believe? IIRC, it's been a while. Needless to say, it was junk. Don't waste you money on the cheap ones, just go Intense, it's the best darn thing since sliced bread as far as I'm concerned when it comes to intakes...

I have an ADTR (the original CAI designed for Bonneville's) with a Carbon Fiber K&N filter for $50 shipped.
LMK -the piping is powder coated red and comes with a blue coupler to attach to the TB.

as everyone has said, don't bother with the chrome intakes I actually bought one before I knew much about our cars (and hadn't heard of this club, it's a piece of junk that actually made my mileage worse

I love my Intense FWI, but it's not the only good intake in the entire world... if you are really trying to not spend a lot, just assemble one out of those intake pieces at autozone, put a good filter on the end, and fab up some way to shield it. May not be as good, but if you don't have the money, then you don't have the money, ya know?

The autozone one is the one I got, spectre performance, it fell apart at the joints and was cheap as hell, i'd highly recommend NOT getting it and saving for when you can afford a real one instead.

how'd you manage that....

look, the intense FWI is just awesome but it's not the end all be all. you can build one out of their tubing for perhaps a little cheaper....

How'd I manage it? I got the complete kit from Spectre, even got the mounting link to hold the filter at the end in it's CAI format so it wouldn't put additional stress on the cheap hardened plastic they made it out of. Still, with how the 3800 Series II moves natively when you pull hard a lot, the even cheaper joints they give you between the pipes to use cracked, they were on not overtightened but not lose enough to let go cause that happened a few times before also. I didn't go through just one either before making the decision to dump it...

To get technical, it cracked where the screw was on the hardened side where it should be fixed, not the side you tighten the nut on.

Maybe we're not talking of the same thing here but if it's the chrome Spectre one that's the kit I had with the build your own to size....it's complete junk. If you are going to go that way just gut the stock air box and leave it be...

Is the Intense "end all be all", no, Thrashercharged happened to make a REALLY nice CAI that came with a box that stopped ALL engine air from coming into it for w-bodies and could probably be adapted or the idea used in a similar fashion in ours....and I don't know ZZP's offerings on this topic but, cheap plastic chrome painted intakes are NOT the way to go. Sucking in hot engine air is also degrading, not helpful, in performance.
