The first gen CTS-V had the LS6, then LS2, IIRC, and the new ones have the LS9, detuned. I think he wants to wait and let the prices drop.

Yeah the newest CTS V is the detuned ZR1 Vette motor right?

But knowing how finicky my Northstar is, I have sorta been apprehensive about a S/C version in an even tighter engine compartment and having ot work on it.

One thing I also noted on several test drives I've had, is that they seem "tight". Not tight like a great road car "tight", tight as in, the car didn't want to rev and run. Don't get me wrong, with the exception of one I drove, they got up and moved when you put the screws to it, but it didn't seem like they wanted to. This compared to the normal N* like in my GXP the loves to rev and loves to play. A couple of guys on the Caddy forum said a tune will change all that.

However, watching the new CTS-V mop up the Eurobloods left and right, I've got half a notion to hold out another year and let prices on them drop.
It probably ws not broken in yet. My STS-V is noticeably quicker now then it was with the brand new engine. As far as the GXP Bonneville I had I never thought it was too fast and hated the delay while waiting for power to build. Dont get me wrong it was a nice car but I think it would have benefited from the vvt version of the northstar.

It is, but re-read.

I have had my eye on STS-V's for about a year now. STS-V's have a handbuilt, 4.4L S/C Northstar.

However, with all the press of the new CTS-V cleaning the clocks of the European supersedans, I may hold off any purchase, whether that be an STS-V, G8 GXP, or CTS-V until I see how prices drop on the new CTS-V's

Forgetting about the 1st generation "Catera", the 2nd generation (if you want to call it that) CTS-V used an LS6. In 2005, it got the LS2, then as mentioned, the new version (3rd Generation) has an "LS9 Lite" from the ZR1. That is what I'm waiting for.
