antilock sensor

Post by valkyriejunkee »

Does anyone know how to test the antilock sensor on each hub bearing? One of the sensors is bad but I don't know which one. Thanks

There are some scanners that will read the abs system, so you may be able to find a shop that can read them. That's the only real practical way to find out for sure.

This is the same thing as a wheel speed sensor, correct? Can't you take a resistance reading while you spin the wheel?

IIRC,the teeth on the hub spin around a magnet which creates a DC voltage signal that the PC reads. It looks at the "off" part of the signal to determine wheel speed,so if there is no signal at all,ABS no longer works.

It doesn't take much of a variance to the signal to shut the system off. You could try measuring the pulses, but most times the test would prove to be inconclusive.
