Frontend vibration... Kinda like wheel hop

Post by 99SilverSE »

If i'm at a stop and push the gas a little too fast on the greenlight I get some major vibration/jumping untill I let off the gas and then it's ok.

What do I need to check?

I think I need those too, I've been hearing a weird grumbling noise when I first start moving and under a load.

You might have a sprag going out in the tranny? I'm pretty sure mine is and it is doing the same thing as yours. I can never find the time to pull the tranny and replace it but I have been driving it for a very long time in this condition. I just make sure not to get on the gas hard until after 5 mph. It might be a pressure control solenoid, but I think it's a sprag? (in my car)

I should add that I am taking a big chance by not fixing it right away. It could result in greater damage down the road...litterally, like scattered down the road right behind my car :(

My last car did that, if you hammer the gas from a stop, it vibrates like a bitch, but if you get it rolling just a bit, you can put the pedal through the floor and get it to engage without problems. I never figured out the problem, but I put 70k km's on it, and it never gave up.It has to be something in the trans.

Oh great! It's been doing this since I bought it 2 years ago. Though it seems like it went away for a while after I got my wheelbarring changed (JUST THOUGHT ABOUT THAT) but now it's back again. Maybe I need to check the barrings again?

Check the dog bone under the right side of the engine. It connects from the subframe to the diff cover on the transmission.

My car is doing the same thing. It's sort of speed-dependent. When flooring it from a stop, it really shakes. Flooring it with the car slightly moving makes it shake less.

Eh, looks like a new dogbone mount (or "torque strut mount-engine") at AutoZone is $22. I may be replacing it this weekend.

99Silver, it could be that the mount wears out as it ages. I notice our cars are both 1999 L36-powered base models. With identical problems.

Looking in my factory service manuals, it says that faulty mounts are very likely responsible for what they term "launch shudder".
