Re: WCBF09 July 19 - 26 - Corvallis Oregon
Can we pre-plan the group car photo shoot before we actually do it this year? I was disappointed with last year's "mess of cars in a field" photo. I really liked the photos from previous years where the cars were arranged in a semicircle with each owner next to their car. I realize this may be difficult with a large number of cars, but we have digital cameras and Photoshop now, and piecing together a panorama is now a simple process. (I'll be happy to piece it together if we need someone skilled at it, I didn't spend 9 years working at Adobe for nothing.)
I think a really wide panorama photo of all the cars arranged like that (taken head-on to the arc of cars) would be very striking.
And if we can plan a couple versions of the photo: Group photo with all the participating cars, including non-Bonneville's on the ends, followed by Bonneville-only shot?
I'm just throwing this out there as a suggestion. Last year's photo was taken after race-day, everyone was hot, tired, and hungry, and arranging the photo just seemed to be done very ad-hoc and took a long time.
Lots of people take pictures of the assembled cars, and that's cool, but if we could assign one official photographer *cough Vince cough* with a high resolution digital camera on a tripod so we can get good overlapping rotated shots to piece together the panorama, then we could put together a very nice, very striking wide panorama that we can post for everyone to have.
Comments? Thoughts? Good idea? Bad idea? I'm just throwing this out there. If we collect thoughts as a sort of post-mortem on last year's `fest, we can plan ahead to make this year's even better.

I agree with Mark.
Since he is most interested, I would like to put him in charge of the photo shoot. He could assign the actual shooting requirements to a volunteer with a good camera. Bill also has a good camera and tripod.
Anyone want to second the motion?

I have a very good camera too. We'll need volunteers to help tell people where to place their car. We should start with Bonnevilles in the center, I'd say by year and style, with participating non-Bonnes on the sides. Minor misplacements are not a big deal and people shouldn't worry about it. This should be as stress-free as possible.
We can do varying shots: with flags, without flags, etc.

Mark, how about drawing up a plan of how you think it should look.
We can form a small team of people who will direct cars but we all need to be able to visualize the final arrangements.
Good idea coordinating with the GP guys, Jared.

Re: WCBF09 July 19 - 26 - Corvallis Oregon
Can some of the veteran WCBF campers provide a recommended list of what KOA tent-campers should bring with them? Someone did this for me last year and it really helped weed out unnecessary stuff I wouldn't have needed. I mean, for me, I basically brought the tent & tarp, air mattress, sleeping bag, pillow, flashlights, chair, and general grooming stuff. Additionally: sunscreen, hat, clothing for hot and cold temps, GMRS radios, and chargers for cell phone and radios was pretty much all I needed. [Edit: And a small cooler with ice, caffeinated canned beverages for the 10-hour drive, and beer for after arrival at the KOA.]
I'm bringing my wife and the kids this year, and she heard "Campground" and is prepared to dig in for trench warfare. I'm trying to tell her that I don't think we'll even cook a single meal at the campsite, that we usually drive to a restaurant to eat, and that the only time I generally spent at the campground was to sleep and hang out and BS with other B'villers. Because we're bringing the kids, I'm sure we *will* make use of the pool and KOA activities for them, but my wife thinks we're going wilderness camping, and she's prepared to pack her car full of everything we might possibly need. I told her there's a whole town with stores a minute away for anything she needs.
Obviously, others *do* cook at the campsite, especially those with trailers, but for the tent campers, if some veterans can list their recommended stuff to bring, that would be great.
This year, I'm going to also bring FSM's and tools! -Turns out those could have been handy last year!

Do we also do a group shot with the Portland Grand Prix club? If we do, I'd like to make sure we also get a photo of just our club.

Yeah, the big shoot usually includes all th Bvilles, the PDX clubGP, the Seattle ClubGP and the Idaho Club3800. So if we stick them on one side or the other, or in the back or front, then they can quickly move out for just the Bonneville shots.

Or we can do our shot first, starting with B'villes, adding non-Bonne's from our club, then add the other groups. That may be less chaotic. (I really want to reduce the chaos of last year and make it go quicker and get a better photo.)SuperSLE wrote:Yeah, the big shoot usually includes all th Bvilles, the PDX clubGP, the Seattle ClubGP and the Idaho Club3800. I agree. Last year really wasn't very good and everyone was a bit tired and the shot was kind of crappy. I can't even see my car in it.

In the past we a total group shot and then they left and we stayed behind for an extra b'vers only pic.
This does take time to setup and I think a bit of a map with general layout would be nice.
You kinda need 3 people or more with radios to direct the flow and place the cars.
As for camping stuff, the essentials you listed is a good start and your right you dont need to pack for Armageddon but if you want to cook and do the whole camping experience theres no reason why you couldn't.
This year I will bring since its just me.
Pillow
tent
sleeping bag
pair of shorts
tool box
shaving kit
cooler
Flags
spare parts
camera
towels

I'll be bringing a telescope again this year. The dark skies in Corvallis are a pleasant change from the light polluted Bay Area, Ca.

So maybe thinking of doing the shot of our group at the KOA or something? Maybe the big grassy area behind all the camping spots would be good?Bugsi wrote:Or we can do our shot first, starting with B'villes, adding non-Bonne's from our club, then add the other groups. So if we stick them on one side or the other, or in the back or front, then they can quickly move out for just the Bonneville shots.
