Poss. bad crank sensor.

Hey guy's need your help. Had used engine installed back in March after it ate itself. Same type engine but not sure what it came from. Car has never ran right sense. Every new code I fixed (plugged cat, removed it-02 pre cat, replaced it, missfire on #1 & #6 cyl, new plugs & wires. Now car dies going home & backfires, blowing muffler in two. Put a good coil pack on but car don't like to run over 60mph when outside temp over 75. Car runs great in morning but willnot start unless it sets for 30min or so. New scan shows crank sensor bad or out of range. Is it time to have CKS changed? Also new fuel pressure reg. installed. Really need help to save car. Thanks.

I would suspect a wirring issue? It could be a crank sensor, but that sensor did not fail very often on these engines.

The muffler blew up because there was a gasoline and air in just the right proportion along with a spark in the exhaust system. Some possibilities include a cylinder with no spark allowing fuel to accumulate in the exhaust, a leaking fuel pressure regulator, or bad fuel injector. Too much fuel would also explain good running cold when more fuel is needed, but bad running warm when less is required. A bad intake air or coolant temperature sensor continuously telling the PCM that the car is cold is another possibility.

The muffler blew apart after engine shut off at hiway speed 65ish. Put car in N and after aprox. 20sec coasting muffler blew. Also if it was a injecter bad would it throw a code? I got a bad crank sensor code. Will a fuel issue cause the engine not to start up for 30min after I shut it off? Please keep throwing out ideas.

If you have a crank sensor code set, by all means, change out the crank sensor. A bad sensor can cause a no-start, sometimes start, sometimes stall condition.

Hey Bill thanks for the reply. My car has cost me over 3600 dollars sense Nov. 08 in repairs (used engine, lower control arm etc) Love the car but breaking me at the same time. If any club member can think of any other things that might help, please chim in. Got Mech. lined up to do crank sensor within the week. 2nd bonneville, hope to get a SSEI next.

I agree with Bill, that as you got the code for the crank sensor, replace that. Consider yourself lucky there, as many go and never set a code. If that doesn't fix the problem, we'll do more trouble-shooting.
