My 07 Vulcan project <------------------lots of photos!

Post by Guest »

Thought I should fill you guys in with my new project that is taking me away from the Bonneville club lately.

This is basically a bunch of photos that I've been taking over the last two weeks. Sorry for any confusion.

I bought a bike again for the summer. Its a salvaged 2007 Vulcan 900 Classic..for now.
I'm either going to restore to stock or 'Bobber' it.

Enjoy.....I am....peace:)

Taken with my cellphone...2.0 mega pixel only

Bringing it home:

Tear down:

Little more work today. sorry for bad photos. taken with my cellphone.

New Front Fender set in place:

Doesn't look like much but there is a lot there!

:)

Well thats it for today. More photos tomorrow. i'll take my digital camera and take some really nice shots.

Thanks for looking!

Check out these two bikes parked next to my work truck:

and..

A bit more work done today.

First up is a shot of the new bucket bolted in:

Handlebar all set up with new grips, brake lever, and mirrors:

Headlight in:

Visor installed:

bike is screaming "Put me back together and get me on the road!"

Ok take a little brake from my bike and take a look at my older brothers oldie.....

1994 Vulcan 1500A Custom

and the custom 1969 Mustang he is building for a customer
Image

nothing special today just a photo of the bike with no front rim on it. I installed another rim from a 06 VN900 classic. Pretty easy to do btw.

Image

The rim I put on sits the same as the one I took off so my forks are tweaked a bit.

Alright guys, I started to paint it tonight!!
Here ya go more photos. The paint is going to be a 4 stage job. First up

Finishing up wet sanding the tank: Remember the nasty dent?
Image
The black you see in the primer is actually a dust you apply over the primer before you block sand. It shows the orange peel as you sand it goes away and this way you will know when to stop sanding.
Image

quick shot of my bike and my brother's bike. Oh guys BTW sorry its NOT a 84 as my brother corrected me. His bike is a 1994.
Image

Ok here I brought all the body parts to his other body shop for prep and first coat of paint.
Image
Image

Ok first coat applied. Its called 'Ruby Red Metallic':
Image
Image

Photo of second stage coat. Some sort of purple my wife and I picked out. I had just taken it out of the mixer:
Image

Second stage coat:
Image

the camera really does not do it justice:
Image
Image

Shot of me getting all glassy eyed painting. Long day at work. But tell ya what this is really fun painting this bike!! My mug shot:
Image

Shot of second stage second coat. The paint has a really nice blue tint to it because of the blue flake in the paint:
Image
Image

Just a little preview for you guys to see what is going to be put in at the final stage when I'm ready for it.
Image
again photos just don't do it:
Image

Final shot for the night:

Tomorrow will be the 3rd stage: Black!

Stay tuned.

Todd:)

I thought the color turned out way to purple so I'll give it a season and repaint it next year with some other combo. My wife loves the color so I'll be rolling with it for now.

Thanks for looking guys!

Looks good Todd, but I agree about too much purple. If only cars were that easy to repaint huh?

Looks good. I like the choice of paint color for it.

Hey, where's you mask? You should know better than getting a free buzz in the paint booth
