I just wanted to pass on my experience of today in taking my car in for service. I'm about to do a 2500 mile trip with the Bonneville and once again, I have a wheel that won't hold pressure. So for at least the sixth time, I took it in to have the leaking wheels resealed. The person I take it to has run into this before and is now using some kind of special sealant to be sure it doesn't happen again.
While it was in there, I told him that the check engine light was on and I was assuming that the issue was somewhere in the evaporative system which he confirmed when he hooked his scanner up. He then hooked up his smoke system and couldn't find where the problem was but as we talked, we agreed that the problem was almost certainly the vent valve. Since I knew where it was and it didn't look like a lot of fun to replace it without a lift, I told him to go ahead and install a new one since the car was already there. After he was done, he said that the bracket was corroded and buckled so it took a bit of massaging to get things back together to which I said I was glad in this case to pay the money so I didn't have to do it.

Re: Swoopy leaks
If you have chromed alloys, the chrome is pitting on where the tire bead seats
When it gets really bad the air leaks under the chrome and out the bead
Sealers don't always fix the problem, the only way is to take the tire off the rim and grind the flaky/corroded chrome smooth, then use the sealer

Re: Swoopy leaks
You're right about where the leak is occurring. I guess these wheels were never intended for northern Illinois winters with the salt.

Re: Swoopy leaks
Probably not a salt issue as it is internal
My 03 Rally had the same issue and 5-6 trips to the tire shops over a year
No one ever took the tire off, just broke bead and applied sealer
the funny thing it was just the inner rim beads on all the wheels, outside chroming was flawless>> manufacturing defect?
Got a good pic, is there anyway to post a pic wtihout having it uploaded on a outside site?
