Lube your chassis!

I'm a frugal... OK, I withstand categorization...

I was at Farm & Fleet today to buy a tube of grease for my as of unused air grease gun. (air pressure grease gun). It's the f'n bananna cliche: I was torn between half price "touted" "semi-syn" and known FULL SYN Mobile 1 lube (I admit thinking that it was important). I had the half price in my hand... going thru my mind: bonnie old... bonnie boots leak anyway .... #@!xx... Peace finally comes from putting back the unknown product and selecting double price Mobil 1 Synthetic. (Yes, it would have stayed in my mind if I had chosen the unknown "lith-syn" stuff).

Result: I paid $6.5 for the red Mobil 1 stuff instead of the half priced unknown claim of "semi syn".

We use cheap lithium grease, and it works just fine. Plus, it's $1.50 a tube.

Since I lube every 6 mionths, I use name brand dino lube or what ever name brand is on sale. Usually $2.99 a tube or less.

On the farm we switched from lithium to polyurea...it doesn't harden over time as much as lithium. We go through a tube a day in the busy season. Dunno how the polyurea compares to synthetic. (or is it the same thing?)

"PolyUREA"???! Was that an April fool's joke? All I know is that certain days of the year, one CANNOT drive anywhere in farmland because it stinks so bad! EWWW!

(Ref: I was told a decade or so ago that farmers put down urea (pee?) on their soil and that's what stinks up the area for miles). Correct that if it is wrong.

I lube at every oil change. I even CHANGE grease sometimes. Note what comes out of the overflow ports (make sure your vehicle has them before you go pumping up your boots and exploding them!) after you have pressure-washed the undercarriage and linkages. It probably doesn't matter what you use as far as lube if you opt for plastic tie rod ends (I use MOOG). $6 for a tube of grease that lasts me for YEARS? I'm gonna buy the red stuff! (synthetic).

Well, we put our hog manure on our ground, and it contains urea. It smells a little, but also gives us some of the best yields in the area.

I like green grease :D Its lasting a lot longer than any other grease I've used before. Boots are still perfectly full.

color has nothing to do with the qualities of the grease. You should go by its rating.

Green Grease is a brand, and it's colored green. It's a synthetic grease.

Mobilith is green. Mobil Lithium. There are other very prominent greens as well.

Actually, I believe the color of grease does indicate it's lubricating qualities, and it's usage. That way you can look at two drums of it and tell what's what.

It doesnt though. Green for one company may be the crap grease and green for another company maybe top of the line go by the rating.

Color is for Identifcation within the manufacturer, Marketing (which apparently works well as everyone here seems hooked on green), and consistancy of color.

PolyUREA This stuff beats the snot out of Deere's lithium grease which we used to use. You can immediately tell by feel which one (lithium or polyurea) was used on a piece of equipment. The lithium dries and hardens over time.

I am aware of that I am saying that color doesnt indicate quality. And that you should really look at the ratings.
